GOP rep who promised voters he'd end stock trading now 'most prolific' investor

Rep. Rob Bresnahan (R-PA), who campaigned on banning stock trading among lawmakers, is now one of the House's "most prolific traders," according to Business Insider.

The report said that Bresnahan wrote an op-ed in a local paper in March 2021 "stating that if elected, he would co-sponsor legislation to ban stock trading in Congress."

Bresnahan argued at the time, "Some of the most prolific traders in the country serve in Congress. Whether or not they have done something wrong, the idea that we can buy and sell stocks while voting on legislation that will have a direct impact on these companies is wrong and needs to come to an end immediately."...

'Absolutely!' CNN panel slams Trump commerce secretary's 'conflict of interest'

CNN's Inside Politics' panel slammed Donald Trump's Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick Thursday for blatantly promoting Tesla stock in an effort to help owner Elon Musk.

Tesla has seen its stocks slump since Musk's affiliation with President Donald Trump and stewardship of the vastly unpopular Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), that has slashed whole departments and thousands of government jobs. Well-publicized recalls of Tesla vehicles, including Cybertrucks that had their parts fall off, have not helped the situation.

According to Business Insider, Tesla shares have "plummeted 53% from record highs reached in mid-December."...

Thief steals Vermont Democratic Party debit card, hits FanDuel sports betting site

The Vermont Democratic Party is one of many political fundraising committees that have fallen victim to theft during the past couple of years.

But it’s the only one where the thief deposited the stolen funds into a sports betting account.

A Raw Story analysis of Federal Election Commission records showed the Vermont Democratic Party experienced a fraudulent charge of $925 on its political committee debit card — and the money went into an account on the sports and fantasy gambling site FanDuel....

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) is back playing the stock market after an extended absence — and she just purchased stock in two companies whose business dealings potentially conflict with her congressional committee assignments.

In a public filing released today and reviewed by Raw Story, Greene reported buying up to $15,000 Qualcomm, a federal defense contractor. Greene serves on the Homeland Security Committee and the Subcommittee on Border Security and Enforcement.

George Santos’ potential replacement also has financial ethics issues

The U.S. House of Representatives has formally expelled Rep. George Santos (R-NY) because of numerous alleged financial fraud and crimes and numerous congressional ethics violations.

But Santos’ potential replacement — himself a one-time congressman — has a history of financial ethics issues, too.

Former Rep. Tom Suozzi (D-NY) violated a federal conflicts-of-interest and financial disclosure law at least three times while in Congress, according to reporting from NPR and Business Insider....

Video: Trump praises China’s president at Mar-a-Lago gala

Donald Trump, who openly admires and envies the world’s dictators and strongmen, chose the week of Joe Biden’s summit with Xi Jinping to lavish praise on the Chinese president — and trash the U.S. president.

After mocking Biden as confused, Trump, the former president and Republican frontrunner for 2024, said during a gala at his Mar-a-Lago home that Xi is “like a piece of steel — strong, smart,” according to a video obtained by Raw Story.

“There’s nobody in Hollywood who could play the role,” Trump added....
