A right-wing media personality complained on Sunday that Justice Juan Merchan was biased against Donald Trump, but was met with some intense backlash.

Conservative media personality Erick Erickson, the founder of Red State, took to social media over the weekend to a make a case that Merchan was more biased than Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito, who said his wife flew an upside down flag in response to a Trump-related neighborhood dispute.

Merchan oversaw the New York criminal hush money cover-up case, where Trump was recently found guilty by a jury of his peers on 34 felony counts of business records fraud....

Judge Aileen Cannon's "disqualification cup runneth over" in Donald Trump's criminal document-handling and Espionage Act case, a former federal prosecutor said.

Ex-prosecutor Glenn Kirschner went on MSNBC on Saturday, where he was asked if Cannon is "the reason that Trump may not face trial before" the election.

"And how do you see the ruling for their quest to bar him from making statements that could endanger law enforcement? Because this is different than requesting a gag order, right?" the host added....

Judge Aileen Cannon’s decision to "indefinitely delay" former President Donald Trump's criminal classified documents trial might come with a silver lining for special counsel Jack Smith, according to legal experts.

Former Acting U.S. Solicitor General Neil Katyal believes Cannon's postponement will allow Smith's team to put their entire focus on Trump's federal election immunity case, he said in a recent interview on MSNBC.

"Judge Cannon’s decision today has now cleared the docket for Trump,” Katyal said. When host Alex Wagner asked if Katyal thought it possible Smith's election interference case will head to court before Election Day, he said yes. ...

A tug-of-war over landing on a start date for former President Donald Trump's criminal trial where he's accused of stashing classified documents at his Mar-a-Lago club is dancing around the Florida federal judge's concerns that any date could find itself in gridlock with Trump's 2020 election subversion trial in Washington.

U.S. district judge Aileen Cannon didn't deliberately speak to the dates she had in mind, but made clear she wanted to push back the tentative May 20 trial further down the road.

Special Counsel Jack Smith could potentially replace Judge Aileen Cannon, who oversees Donald Trump's documents case in Florida, if conditions are right.

Former federal prosecutor Joyce Vance appeared on MSNBC's Alex Wagner Tonight on Thursday, and was asked about the Mar-a-Lago case and whether she thought it would ultimately be tried. Specifically, Wagner asked Vance whether she has "optimism" regarding that case making it to trial before the general election.

"I haven't used the word optimism in the same sentence with the Mar-a-Lago case for a long time," Vance replied. "It's a simple case in terms of how to get the case ready for trial. It should've already been at trial."...

US District Judge Aileen Cannon of the Southern District of Florida — who was appointed to her lifetime position by then-President Donald Trump — has been roundly criticized for actions perceived as biased in favor of the former president. However, a former federal prosecutor says Cannon's actions may actually be accelerating Trump's legal headaches.

Currently, Trump is scheduled to stand trial in Cannon's court on May 20, 2024 for allegedly mishandling classified documents. However, Cannon's pattern of delaying multiple pretrial procedures suggest that the trial could either be pushed back until after the 2024 election, or — in the event that Trump wins the general election — cancelled altogether. Daily Beast legal correspondent Jose Pagliery recently wrote that earlier this month, Cannon "pushed back what might have been a one- or two-day meeting with prosecutors to review classified documents until February." Legal experts say these delays will almost certainly mean a May 20 trial date won't be feasible.

During a recent appearance on political commentator Brian Tyler Cohen's podcast, former Assistant US Attorney Glenn Kirschner opined that Judge Cannon's delays may actually be what delivers speedy justice in another jurisdiction. Because Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis recently announced an August 5 trial date for Trump and his co-defendants, Kirschner argued that Cannon "may have actually screwed" the former president by "opening up his schedule."...
