'Runt' of Trump's criminal cases now takes center stage as others face delay: legal expert

The case over Trump's alleged hush-money payment to a porn star is likely to go first in the four criminal cases against him. Legal experts acknowledge they though it may be the "runt" of the legal litter — it shouldn't be relegated to "yesterday's mashed potatoes."

“This was the first indictment of Trump but quickly became seen as the runt of the litter, compared to bigger, more consequential cases,” veteran criminal New York defense Ronald Kuby told The Washington Post.

New York City's D.A. Alvin Bragg brought the 34-count criminal indictmentaccusing Trump of falsifying business records around the alleged hush money payment to porn start Stormy Daniels at the bookend of his 2016 presidential campaign....

'Should worry him': Reporter says Trump might face new charges with Nevada filings

The Teflon Don should sweat Nevada's grand jury indictments of six suspected bogus Trump electors.

That's the thinking by CNN reporter Jamie Gangel, who appeared on "The Situation Room" to weigh in on the case where Nevada Republican Party Chair Michael McDonald and Clark County Republican Chair Jesse Law, who had just announced his candidacy for Nevada State Assembly, were charged.

"You never know with Trump what really worries him, but let's put it this way: they should worry him," she said. "Even though he is not named in this case the way he was in Georgia, additional charges conceivably could be brought."...

Donald Trump moves for page limits on Jack Smith filings in D.C. court

Donald Trump is asking the court to be strict about imposing rules on page limits when it comes to filings by Special Counsel Jack Smith.

Trump's attorneys on Saturday filed a response in the D.C. case, which is being overseen by Judge Tanya Chutkan, taking issue with Smith's bid to file a briefing that goes beyond 45 pages. In that case, Trump faces allegations that he attempted to subvert the 2020 election.

The Trump filing notes that the prosecution "requests leave to file an oversized, consolidated brief in response to President Trump’s Motion to Dismiss on Statutory Grounds and Motion to Dismiss on Constitutional Grounds."...

Trump asks Judge Chutkan to pause 'all proceedings' in D.C. elections case

Donald Trump on Wednesday evening asked Judge Chutkan to stay "all proceedings" in a case alleging he attempted to subvert the 2020 election after losing to President Joe Biden.

Trump, who has argued in court that his is totally immune from the suit because he was president at the time, doubled down on the key defense just last week. Trump's legal team at the time was responding to special counsel Jack Smith's filing, which said that Trump is "not above the law."

In that filing, the prosecutor dismantled the former president's argument that he is absolutely immune from prosecution due to his former office....

Trump can't blame Dems for criminal case because most witnesses are insiders: former prosecutor

Donald Trump won't be able to take his usual route of blaming Democrats in his upcoming criminal trial for handling of classified documents because the primary witnesses in the indictment are from the former president's inner circle, a former federal prosecutor said Friday night.

Former prosecutor Glenn Kirschner appeared on MSNBC to discuss Trump's criminal case, and was asked about the court order limiting Trump from discussing the case with his co-defendant, Walt Nauta, and other witnesses close to him. Kirschner said such an order would likely be unenforceable, but pointed out that those witnesses would be key to crushing Trump's favorite defense.

"Who's going to report a violation of that? Not Walt, not Donald. So I wonder the efficacy of a court order or prohibition like that," he said, adding that there was a separate "great point about the witnesses who we saw in the indictment." ...
