Prosecutors will present evidence to a grand jury about the Hope Florida scandal involving first lady Casey DeSantis.

The State Attorney's Office for the 2nd Judicial Circuit has issued subpoenas for witnesses who will testify before the grand jury starting the week of Oct. 13, according to two sources close to the matter who spoke to the Times/Herald.

The nonprofit foundation spearheaded by the wife of Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has been under investigation by prosecutors since May, after Republican state legislators started looking into revelations that the administration directed $10 million from a legal settlement with a Medicaid contractor to the charity controlled by his wife....

The Orlando Sentinel editorial board took a firm stance against what it claimed was "intimidation" and "bullying" by the DeSantis administration over its investigation into a charity connected to the governor's wife.

The board reported that it received an unsigned cease-and-desist letter from the Florida Department of Children and Families demanding that reporter Jeffrey Schweers stop his "reporting for a story about funding flowing through Hope Florida, the nonprofit spearheaded by the governor’s wife, Casey."

The letter accused Schweers of "trying to 'harass and intentionally cause distress to foster families by threats and coercion' to get them to talk to him for the story."...

Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) had hoped to pass the gubernatorial baton to his wife, Casey DeSantis, when his full term runs out in 2027, describing her as the right person to take his accomplishments "to the next level.”

But an analysis piece in The Guardian suggested that a brewing financial scandal could derail the couple's plans of political dynasty and keep Casey DeSantis from even declaring her candidacy.

According to The Guardian, a charity Casey founded in 2021 called the Hope Florida Foundation with a mandate to reduce government funding for welfare programs has become "mired in controversy," as first reported by The Tampa Bay Times....

Casey DeSantis has already taken some heat for her suggestion that out-of-state voters can participate in the Iowa caucus process, and now Donald Trump's campaign is weighing in.

Casey DeSantis, who was mocked numerous times on Friday, including by someone who said she was "done letting Ron talk," after she appeared to urge supporters who don't live in Iowa to travel there and try to vote in the caucus anyway, saying on Fox News, “We’re asking all of these moms and grandmoms to come from wherever it might be — North Carolina, South Carolina — and descend upon the state of Iowa to be a part of the caucus because you do not have to be a resident of Iowa to be able to participate in the caucus. So moms and grandmoms are going to be able to come and be a part and let their voice be heard in support of Ron DeSantis.”
