Ex-Trump lawyer's defamation target breaks silence on 'coached' January 6 witness

Andrew Weissmann broke his silence after a judge tossed a former Trump lawyer's defamation suit against him over a tweet about a January 6 witness.

Weissmann, a former Mueller prosecutor, spoke Wednesday on The Bulwark's "The Illegal News" podcast, telling host Sarah Longwell the dismissal was "a very good win."

The case stemmed from a years-old tweet Weissmann posted about two attorneys who had represented Cassidy Hutchinson, the former Trump White House aide who became a star witness before the House Jan. 6 committee. The lawyer who sued, Stefan Passantino, served as a deputy White House counsel under Trump and represented Hutchinson before she switched attorneys....

‘Morality does not exist for him’: Remembering Ted Cruz’s epic Trump rant

It’s the 8th anniversary of an epic anti-Donald Trump rant, one of the best rants in modern political history.

But it wasn’t a Democrat or some left-wing commentator who delivered it.

On the morning of May 3, 2016, when Trump would win Indiana’s presidential primary — and all but clinch the Republican nomination en route to him capturing the presidency — his soon-to-be-vanquished rival, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX), made a last campaign push. He went to an elementary school and greeted voters outside of Wolf’s Bar-B-Q in Evansville, Ind. ...

Mark Meadows aide Cassidy Hutchinson sees Trump loyalists becoming 'bodies all around him'

Donald Trump's wake is littered with the fallen of those who pledged fealty.

That is the metaphor that Cassidy Hutchinson, the former aide to White House chief of staff Mark Meadows, conjured during an interview on CNN's "The Source" with Kaitlin Collins.

"Look at how Mr. Trump has conducted himself through his business career and also his political career," she said. "I almost relate it to bodies around him, but he takes out everybody who is loyal to him because it's all about his personal gain and what he can gain from those people." ...

GOP faces 'high risk of a self-own' in summoning Cassidy Hutchinson: analysis

Republicans are taking a big risk demanding Cassidy Hutchinson submit Jan. 6 records to their revived investigation into the 2021 attack on the U.S. Capitol, according to a new analysis.

The investigation spearheaded by Rep. Barry Loudermilk — the Georgia Republican who exonerated himself for actions tied to the historic day — is reportedly entering a “new phase" MSNBC analysts said Wednesday could prove problematic.

They pointed to the demands on Hutchinson — the former aide to Trump's chief of staff Mark Meadows who gave damning testimony to House investigators — as proof. ...

'Weak and feeble man': Three ex-Trump staffers fear second term would mean democracy's end

Three ex-Trump White House staffers fear a second term for the MAGA president could do indelible harm to the country.

Alyssa Farah Griffin, Cassidy Hutchinson, and Sarah Matthews spoke about how dystopian the country could become if Trump notched the nomination and defeated Biden come November 2024.

"Fundamentally, a second Trump term could mean the end of American democracy as we know it, and I don't say that lightly," Griffin told ABC News' "This Week" co-anchor Jonathan Karl. "We all witnessed him trying to steal a democratic election before and go to historic and unconstitutional lengths to do so." ...

'Everything he says is dangerous': Cassidy Hutchinson says Trump's 'gotten people killed'

Trump's words have "gotten people killed," a former White House aide declared.

Cassidy Hutchinson, who served in the Trump administration as an aide to White House chief of staff Mark Meadows, is sounding air raid sirens during an appearance on MSNBC's Joy Reid in the "ReidOut" to try to make sure people don't gloss over Trump's Day One dictatorship, should he be voted to become the 47th president.

"I want to be careful because I do agree and I have been very vocal about talking about how if he is re-elected, it is a step towards a dictatorship in the United States," she said. "But since I have last discussed that, he has come out and almost made light of it."...
