Breaking up with "The Office"

[rebelmouse-image 24863421 original_size="360x225" expand=1]As you can probably tell from my post where I broke up with "Glee", Marc and I DVR a lot of our shows and watch them some time after air date. I don't mention this because I think that's uncommon or anything, but to note that we have a lot of shows we like and a DVR box with a very small hard drive. This makes us even more critical than normal of stuff sucking, since we don't want to waste precious DVR space on shows that aren't worth our time. Which is why last night we decided to stop taping "The Office".

OH NO THEY DIDN'T

OH NO THEY DIDN'T

I have to take a break from blogging about minor concerns like crime, the environment, and health care to announce that I agree with SEK that this list from Entertainment Weekly about the 10 best shows from the past 10 years is bullshit. How dare they put "The Wire" at #6? How dare they include "American Idol" and not "Mad Men"? That alone has put them on notice. Yes, for those about to express concern, I realize that it's the nature of these lists to be controversial, but good lord, that was fucked up.

Warning: I'm completely caught up on "The Office" and have seen all but the last two episodes of "Lost". I'm going to reference stuff in both to my heart's desire. You have been warned, spoiler police.

Way Behind Reviews: Heroes

Way Behind Reviews: Heroes

Since I so often find myself compelled to write reviews of TV shows I catch well after they initially came out, thanks to the combination genius of Netflix, iTunes, and just buying DVDs straight up (though mostly Netflix), I thought I'd just start calling these Way Behind Reviews. Marc and I just finished Netflixing all of the first season of "Heroes". I'll admit; I was skeptical of this show after catching a random mid-season episode, which I watched because a friend of mine with usually stellar taste recommended the show. The episode I caught seemed way too corny and derivative for my tastes, but what I realized watching the first season from the beginning was that the corny, derivative aspects are part of the fun. With the constant nods to comic books and other sci-fi and fantasy shows, the show wears its derivative aspects like a badge of honor, as if to say that these stories are the new mythology of a secular era.
