Trump's fear of midterm election loss could spark 'Civil War'-like response: expert

Fears of a midterm blowout could push President Donald Trump into a "Civil War"-like response, a political expert has warned.

The president is already pushing ICE agents onto the streets of blue states, which some Democratic Party representatives have denounced. Whether the pressure from Trump and his administration works is yet to be seen, but fears of a midterm loss could push these actions even further, reported the Washington Post.

"Trump has stepped up ICE patrols across the country and deployed or attempted to deploy National Guard troops in several cities run by Democrats," the newspaper reported. "After the Civil War, paramilitary groups and mobs used violence in the South to prevent Black voters from casting ballots, and a century later law enforcement attacked civil rights protesters as they fought segregation."...

‘One inch from a potential civil war’

‘One inch from a potential civil war’

With an assassination attempt on Donald Trump at a rally in Pennsylvania on July 13, 2024, the U.S. experienced another violent episode in its increasingly polarized politics. Former President Trump, who’s about to formally become the GOP nominee for president in the 2024 election, survived the attempted assassination when, initial reports said, a bullet grazed his ear.

But one rally attendee was killed, more spectators were injured and the suspected gunman is also dead. The Conversation’s politics editor, Naomi Schalit, spoke with University of Massachusetts, Lowell, scholar Arie Perliger after the event.

Perliger offered insight from his study of political violence and assassinations. Given the stark political polarization in the U.S., Perliger said, “it’s not a surprise that eventually people engage in violence.” ...

'We're going to stand firm': Trump rallygoer threatens 'civil war' if Biden wins

One supporter of Donald Trump warned Thursday that President Joe Biden's re-election could result in a new civil war.

While waiting for Trump to speak at a Bronx rally, a man who identified himself as a Marine Corps veteran spoke to Gateway Pundit host Jordan Conradson.

"And you know, speaking of that election integrity, how do you expect 2024 to be?" Conradson asked. "Do you think it's going to be fair?"...

Controversial 'Civil War' movie prompts debate over US schism

Los Angeles (AFP) - A major film that imagines a second civil war in the near-future United States has highlighted fears about the divided state of the nation ahead of November's presidential election. "Civil War," which premiered at the SXSW Festival this week and hits theaters April 12, pictures a three-term US president in Washington DC battling secessionist forces from California and Texas. The movie stars Kirsten Dunst as a journalist travelling through a broken, dystopian nation. The FBI has been disbanded, and military drone strikes launched on US citizens. In early reviews, The Atlanti......

Trump winning and causing a civil war would be 'worth it': evangelical preacher

Whatever it takes to return Trump back to 1600 Pennsylvania — even if it meant a civil war — would be "worth it," according to one religious leader.

"I've actually had people say that if Trump was to be elected if we got a conservative Congress, that they fear that we would have another civil war," Andrew Wommack, a TV evangelical preacher, said during an episode of his "Truth & Liberty" show earlier this week, and first reported by Newsweek. "And you know what? I don't want a civil war, I don't know anybody that does, but would it be worth it? To turn this nation back? I believe it would."

Wommack is president of the Truth & Liberty Coalition, described online as an organization that seeks to "educate, unify, and mobilize believers to impact culture and effect godly change on important social issues."...

Donald Trump's controversial slavery comments reveal his secret weapon: report

Donald Trump's controversial slavery comments reveal his secret weapon: report

Donald Trump and Nikki Haley are both GOP presidential contenders who made similarly controversial Civil War comments, but only one is paying for it, and that's because Trump has the advantage, a new report says.

Haley left slavery out of her answer when asked what caused the Civil War, and Trump suggested the Civil War should have been "negotiated," ignoring that doing so would have continued the establishment of slavery in America. These issues were essentially the same, according to a writer for The Atlantic.

"Though he mocked Haley’s answer as 'three paragraphs of bullsh-t,' a refusal to acknowledge slavery’s role in the war is at the core of Trump’s gaffe too: A negotiated settlement was unlikely, because the southern states were determined to continue enslaving Black people, and any negotiation that allowed that to continue would have been barbaric," the article states. "As Ta-Nehisi Coates explained in The Atlantic in 2011, arguing that the Civil War was 'tragic' misses the point of its triumph in ending slavery."...
