Clarence Thomas just made the case to impeach himself on Ted Cruz's podcast: expert

Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas built a case for his own impeachment by praising his Republican senator "friends" on a podcast, a legal expert warned.

In a Tuesday episode of the "Legal Breakdown" podcast, former federal prosecutor Glenn Kirschner reacted to comments made by Thomas during an episode of "Verdict with Ted Cruz." Thomas thanked Republican Texas senator Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT) and other GOP allies for defending him and his wife, Ginni Thomas.

"You're one of the people who actually stands up, particularly at times when others seem to wither, and I appreciate it," Thomas told Cruz, per Kirschner. "And more personally, when we — my wife and I — were under attack for obvious reasons, you and Mike Lee and some of the other friends would stand up."...

Supreme Court feud just put Trump's plan in jeopardy: legal analyst

A spat between two Supreme Court justices is putting Trump’s plans in jeopardy, a legal expert noted.

Justice Samuel Alito looks poised to stay on as a counterweight to Justice Sonia Sotomayor after their "wacko interaction" spilled out into public view, Michael Popok said during a recent episode of the Unprecedented podcast.

Sotomayor read her "powerful dissent" to Alito's majority opinion on an asylum case, Popok noted....

Supreme Court 'blessed' a 'Kafkaesque nightmare' with its 'disturbing' ruling: analysis

A "disturbing" Supreme Court ruling will allow border officials to subject green-card holders to a "Kafkaesque nightmare," per a Slate analysis.

According to the analysis by legal reporter Mark Joseph Stern, the 6-3 Supreme Court vote along usual partisan lines in the case Blanche v. Lau established that border officials don't need "clear and convincing evidence" that green-card holders committed a "crime of moral turpitude" to deny them entry.

The case originates from a lawful permanent resident named Muk Choi Lau, who lost his green card and was paroled into the U.S. after he was accused of selling designer-style shorts with a counterfeit trademark, Stern wrote. Lau argued that the border official shouldn't be able to take his green card and have so much discretion....

'Felonious': Right-wing justices rage as Supreme Court preserves abortion pill access

Conservative Supreme Court justices wrote a scathing dissent to the 7-2 decision to allow women to continue accessing the abortion pill Mifepristone via mail and telehealth.

"What is at stake is the perpetration of a scheme to undermine our decision in Dobbs v. Jackson," Justice Samuel Alito wrote in his dissent, referring to the decision that overturned Roe v. Wade and pulled back abortion access.

On Thursday, the Supreme Court continued a pause on an appeals court decision that restricted access to Mifepristone via telehealth and mail. The decision extended a stay that the bench handed down earlier in the month, but it is not the final decision, as it will go back to the New Orleans-based appeals court and could return to the Supreme Court docket, reported The Hill. ...

Red state's election-rigging gambit hits a wall in federal court

Red state's election-rigging gambit hits a wall in federal court

Red state officials trying to redistrict their state congressional map suffered a setback in a lower court on Friday.

According to Alabama journalist Kyle Whitmire, a three-judge panel denied Alabama a stay, saying that it doesn't have the jurisdiction. Alabama officials have been trying to undo a federal injunction that came out of the case Allen v. Milligan, which restricts state lawmakers from redistricting until the next Census in 2030.

Alabama officials filed an emergency motion demanding a stay that ended up before the three-judge panel earlier in the week, asking it to lift its own injunction. A separate emergency order was filed to conservative Justice Clarence Thomas, who handles requests from the 11th Circuit asking the Supreme Court to lift an injunction....

White House will do 'everything in its power' to oust two Supreme Court justices: expert

The White House will try to pressure two Supreme Court justices to leave the bench and make way for long-term conservative replacements before the midterms, a legal expert predicted.

Justices Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito should expect the Trump and the executive branch to "do everything in its power to entice them off the bench," Sarah Isgur, a former attorney and Department of Justice spokesperson, said on an episode of the Lincoln Project podcast on Tuesday.

Isgur said that the two justices are probably already being told, "Don't be Ruth Bader Ginsburg," referring to the late justice who tried to hold onto the bench until a Democratic president could appoint her replacement. However, Isgur acknowledged that "we now have word from both of them that they do not intend to retire this summer." ...
