Democratic lawmakers were outraged when a Trump nominee refused to answer their questions during a confirmation hearing on Wednesday.

Adam Candeub, nominee to be assistant attorney general, and other judicial nominees testified before the Senate Judiciary Committee confirmation hearing on Capitol Hill, where Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) and Sen. Adam Schiff (D-CA) had pressed the nominees to answer questions about the outcomes of the 2020 and 2016 elections.

Sen. Cory Booker (D-NJ) pushed Candeub to answer whether President Biden won the 2020 election, telling him to "be your own man," adding, "I don't need legalese, I don't need trickery."...

Cory Booker (D-NJ) pressed Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche to respond to questions about why Jeffrey Epstein co-conspirator Ghislaine Maxwell was moved to a minimum security prison camp and demanded answers surrounding the controversial merger between Paramount and Warner Brothers/Discovery when the two got in a fiery back-and-forth.

Booker was questioning Blanche at the Senate confirmation hearing Wednesday on Capitol Hill. The former personal attorney for President Donald Trump turned-nominee for attorney general has faced mounting scrutiny over his handling of the Epstein files and ethics concerns among lawmakers.

"One week after your meeting Ghislaine Maxwell was transferred from a low security federal institution to a minimum security prison camp," Booker said. "Were you involved with that transfer?" ...

Secretary of State Marco Rubio got in a heated exchange with Sen. Cory Booker (D-NJ) during the Senate Foreign Relations Committee hearing on Tuesday.

Rubio was testifying for the first time since the United States launched the Iran war and Booker raised questions about the Ebola crisis and the military operation. Booker told Rubio he was concerned the U.S. had rolled back its investment in eradicating diseases in Africa, and expressed doubt that the Iran war was over, despite the Trump administration's claims that it was.

"With the crisis of Ebola, we see the challenges have been brought about as a result of our surveillance, early detection, and the like. I'm concerned about what the administration's strategy is," Booker said. "We are clearly seeing that what goes on on the continent of Africa directly affects our public health as well."...

Democrats are demanding to hear from Sen. Cory Booker (D-NJ), who defied his party to become the only Democrat voting to confirm Charles Kushner as ambassador to France.

The guardrails that existed during Donald Trump's first administration have now completely disintegrated, allowing Trump's "arrogance, cruelty and hostility toward anyone who does not believe in a white nationalist future" to run rampant, wrote journalist Steven Beschloss for Salon.

But the Democratic resistance is gaining momentum, according to Beschloss, even if it got off to a slow start during the first 100 days of Trump's second term.

Beschloss wrote that he makes an effort "to spotlight the defenders of democracy and the good and decent people who oppose Trump’s gleeful arson and the forces that applaud the flames." It hasn't been "easy" this time, however, Beschloss wrote, as Trump shifts from "nationalist mode" to "imperialist mode" right before our eyes....
