'Sweet baby moo cows!' Kari Lake appeal goes off the rails as judge scolds her lawyer

Failed Trump-backed Arizona gubernatorial candidate Kari Lake had her day in appellate court on Thursday, where judges in Tucson reviewed her election challenge from 2022 — and it didn't go well for her, reported Arizona legal analysts Paul Weich and Tom Ryan, who chronicled the oral argument in a lengthy thread on X.

Kurt Olsen, the attorney for Lake who recently came under bar investigation for his conduct in litigating the election challenges, was repeatedly challenged by the three-judge panel to explain exactly why the trial judge erred in dismissing the case — and had to be reminded over and over that an appeals court does not take in new evidence, it can only decide whether old evidence was considered correctly.

"How do we know [the trial judge] disregarded the evidence?" one judge asked Olsen. Olsen claimed that "he disregarded the evidence," to which the judge replied, "What's your evidence that the trial judge simply disregarded it." As Olsen continued to try to introduce "newly discovered evidence," the court appeared skeptical....

'Make or break': Expert says Trump 'will be punished by a jury' for misbehaving in court

Donald Trump may have already sealed his fate in his first criminal case by misbehaving in court, a defense attorney said on Saturday.

Trump has been reported as sleeping in court, as well as muttering in the direction of a juror and even complaining about the "freezing" cold while in court. In the court of public opinion, that's no big deal, but juries pay extra close attention, according to MSNBC legal analyst Danny Cevallos.

Cevallos appeared on MSNBC over the weekend, where he was asked, "How do you think Trump's courtroom behavior could affect the trial?"...

Trump roasted online for whining about 'freezing' courtroom: 'Fleece would be appropriate'

Donald Trump on Thursday complained about the cold criminal courtroom where a jury is being built to ultimately decide whether he committed a criminal act, causing many people to make jokes about the former president.

Earlier in the day, Trump reportedly lamented to his aides that it was "freezing" in Judge Merchan's New York courtroom, where Trump faces charges of falsifying business records to hide an affair as a means to manipulate the 2016 election. In that case, the jury has already been selected, and the alternative slate is being completed now.

But Trump complained numerous times about the cold, even at one point leading to a request for the judge to change the temperature, according to reports....

Busted: Expert says Trump is not complying with the 'spirit' of judge's order

A tug-of-war over landing on a start date for former President Donald Trump's criminal trial where he's accused of stashing classified documents at his Mar-a-Lago club is dancing around the Florida federal judge's concerns that any date could find itself in gridlock with Trump's 2020 election subversion trial in Washington.

U.S. district judge Aileen Cannon didn't deliberately speak to the dates she had in mind, but made clear she wanted to push back the tentative May 20 trial further down the road.

Trump's 'astonishing' court actions will turn juries against him in criminal cases: expert

Trump's 'astonishing' court actions will turn juries against him in criminal cases: expert

Former President Donald Trump has a huge problem going into his upcoming trials, former federal prosecutor Elie Honig wrote for New York Magazine's The Intelligencer on Friday: his erratic behavior will quickly turn juries against him.

This comes in the wake of a jury holding Trump liable for $83.3 million in damages in the E. Jean Carroll defamation trial, a case in which he visibly clashed with the judge.

"Donald Trump’s behavior during the recent E. Jean Carroll defamation trial was so astonishing," wrote Honig. "Even if Trump doesn’t give a damn about courtroom decorum for its own sake, his conduct was self-sabotage and resulted in a jaw-dropping civil verdict. He’d better get an in-court attitude adjustment quickly — or at least fake one — or else the consequences will be far worse."...

'Wow': Trump lawyers send 'crazy' reply after Judge Engoron asks about possible perjury

Attorneys for former President Donald Trump in his $370 million civil fraud trial Wednesday called Judge Arthur Engoron’s demand for information about Allen Weisselberg’s potential perjury plea deal “unprecedented, inappropriate and troubling."

Engoron Monday demanded information about a New York Times report that Weisselberg may have perjured himself during testimony given in the civil fraud trial, but attorney Clifford Robert retorted he had no reason to do so.

“The Article simply does not provide any principled basis for the Court to reopen the record or question the veracity of Mr. Weisselberg's testimony in this case,” Robert wrote in the letter, which later appeared in New York's court record database. ...
