Outrage as Trump admin accused of 'inventing' terror threat to target charities

A new report issued by the State Department lays out an alarming blueprint for criminalizing dissent against the Trump administration through a dubious link to Cuban foreign subversion, critics say.

The July 20 release of the State Department report "Cuba: The Capital of 21st Century Communism" comes on the heels of a global gathering of counterterrorism officials in Washington hosted by Secretary of State Marco Rubio to enlist U.S. allies in cracking down on a perceived global left-wing terrorism threat.

The Cuba report posits that “a sustained campaign of subversion against the United States” by the beleaguered communist nation through espionage and terrorism is responsible for sustaining and shaping the political left in the United States today, including “antifa” and a host of “leftist nonprofits, anti-ICE collectives, social groups and Marxist militant organizations.”...

Trump's 'dumbest' reasoning set to embroil him in fresh military strike: Dem

An alarmed House Democrat said Saturday that President Donald Trump may consider sending the military into yet another country — and for the "dumbest" reason.

Rep. Mark Pocan (D-WI) delivered a scathing rebuke of a new Trump administration report that takes aim at Cuba during a Saturday segment on CNN.

"Two-thirds of this report is about the '60s and '70s, and all of a sudden they jump to today," Pocan said. "It's so ridiculous. It's probably the dumbest report I've read in my 14 years of being here, and whoever wrote it should be embarrassed."...

Trump hunts for 'big win' to distract MAGA from foreign policy collapse: analyst

President Donald Trump has become desperate to "erase the sting of defeat," an analyst argued on Tuesday.

Salon's Heather Digby Parton described how the Iran negotiations and failed foreign policy maneuvers have left Trump in a position where he needs a "big win." And now, he has turned his attention to Cuba and Greenland in an attempt to restore his MAGA base after a "profound defeat."

"For his part, Trump has already declared victory," Digby Parton wrote. "He is clearly eager to move on from what is undoubtedly the worst foreign policy failure of his presidency — and one of the worst in U.S. history. But since his psyche is so fragile, he will not be able to admit that to himself. Trump will need to bag himself a 'win' as soon as possible to erase his defeat in the minds of the MAGA faithful — and to quiet the voices in his head screaming that he has screwed up once again."...

Trump officials serve subpoenas to two popular progressive influencers: report

The Trump administration is going after a pair of influencers because of their support and visits to Cuba, according to reporting by Fox News.

Progressive influencers Hasan Piker and CodePink cofounder Susan Medea Benjamin were served subpoenas by the Treasury Department on Saturday, Fox News reported.

The Treasury Department's Office of Foreign Assets Control requested "financial, logistical and communications information" from the two, according to Fox News. The subpoenas are part of an investigation into possible violations of U.S. sanctions against Cuba. ...

James Comer gets more than he can handle from Newsmax host: 'Sounds like a false flag'

A GOP congressman had a hard time during an appearance on Newsmax selling the Trump administration's newest moves against a foreign country.

Rep. James Comer (R-KY) was trying to convince Newsmax anchor Rob Finnerty that the United States needed to take action against Cuba and its former president, Raúl Castro. The Trump administration declared on Wednesday that it indicted Castro.

"I get it, the Ayatollah is gone, Nicolas Maduro is in jail, but now Cuba?" Finnerty said, shaking his head. "Look, I think people struggle with how this is America first, when gas is $4.55 a gallon right now."...
