Donald Trump filed a motion for Judge Juan Merchan to recuse himself from the trial last year, but it was only after the judge requested a ruling about the matter from an ethics board.

MSNBC legal analyst Lisa Rubin pointed to the timeline of the motion, explaining that on May 4, 2023, the New York State Judicial Ethics Advisory Board reviewed Merchan for possible conflicts and determined there were none.

"We see nothing in the inquiry to suggest that the outcome of the case could have any effect on the judge's relative, the relative's business, or any of their interests," the committee found, an ABC News report quoted....

Donald Trump on Saturday put on display multiple photos of the daughter of the judge in his hush money criminal case, even as the prosecution argues that targeting her could violate an established gag order in the case over purported payments to an adult film star.

Trump, who was previously put on the spot for his attacks on Judge Merchan's daughter, including posting her name publicly, has been accused of intentionally stirring up violence against the jurist's adult daughter. Merchan's daughter works in an industry that services politicians, including prominent Democrats.

His earlier attacks prompted a debate in court filings over what the gag order covers, but he signaled Saturday he's not relenting in his fight against Merchan's daughter....

"The question I ask again, to all the lawyers is, what is it going to take for a judge to finally say, enough, and either level a giant fine against Trump or take the step that is within their power in these circumstances, if he violates a gag order, and toss him in the pokey for some period of time?" asked analyst John Heilemann. "What's it going to take? Are we ever going to see that or not?"

Donald Trump's legal team Friday unveiled a letter to the judge in the ex-president's hush money case, seeking to fight expansion of the established gag order — and "taking a swipe" at the jurist's daughter once again.

Former President Donald Trump attacked Judge Juan Merchan, the jurist overseeing his Manhattan hush money trial, by claiming that his daughter posted a picture of him behind bars on social media.

The problem, according to The Spectator's Jacqueline Sweet, is that that almost certainly didn't happen.

"The account’s veracity is dubious at best, with a creation date of April 2023. Analysis of the Twitter ID associated with the account shows that Judge Juan Merchan’s daughter Loren’s known Twitter account, that she has used since 2016, had its name changed and was set private at some point last spring," she wrote. "The same Twitter ID associated with Loren Merchan’s original Twitter account name, @LorenM426, is now attached to a new name, @LorenM0604, that has a profile picture of Loren Merchan, the same number of followers and posts as the account created in 2016, viewable in archives of the account. It is unclear who runs this account."...
