'Civil war' breaks out in 'reddest of red states' as MAGA coalition implodes: ex-insider

'Civil war' breaks out in 'reddest of red states' as MAGA coalition implodes: ex-insider

A former GOP operative warned on Monday that Republicans in red state Florida have a serious problem on their hands as November approaches.

Rick Wilson, the co-founder of the anti-Trump group The Lincoln Project, spoke with veteran politics reporter Scott MacFarlane for a Substack live video about the growing divide among the GOP as midterms approach.

"Florida is shocking people right now because a year ago, everybody thought it was the reddest of red states, that it was Alabama with better beaches," Wilson said. "And what's happened to the Republican coalition here is absolutely shocking. You've got a civil war going on on the DeSantis wing of the party. Half of the Republican Party hates Byron Donalds. Half of them wants Byron Donalds."...

Trump has 'unleashed his own army': former GOP lawmaker

Donald Trump has successfully "unleashed his own army" that's ready to take up arms whenever he gives the word, according to a former GOP lawmaker.

Former Rep. David Jolly (R-FL) told MSNBC Thursday that pardoning members of the Proud Boys, Oath Keepers, and other extremists who participated in the J6 riots was akin to readying the troops.

"Culturally, and within the country, we have some very dark movements," Jolly said. "The Proud Boys and the Oath Keepers are far-right organizations that ultimately would like to take down our own government. They are dangerous and they will remain dangerous."...

Ex-GOP lawmaker shreds Project 2025 masterminds for 'perversion' of Christian faith

Former Rep. David Jolly (R-FL) tore into the Heritage Foundation's Project 2025, and the organization's director Kevin Roberts, for their effort to reimpose Christian nationalism on the country.

Roberts and his ilk fundamentally misunderstand the American idea, said Jolly, a longtime Trump skeptic, on MSNBC's "The ReidOut" Thursday evening — and just as important, they misunderstand the religion they claim to preach.

"Roberts expresses similar disdain like, J.D. Vance, for childless Americans," said anchor Joy Reid. "He rails against public schools. He says we need to cultivate children's souls. That public schools cultivate children's souls into godless assembly lines meant to shape obedient little comrades who think morality is a construct and nature is an illusion and saying America's teachers have gone insane. He's dead-set on the notion that America is due for a second revolution ... your thoughts on the fact that they're trying to take his very loopy ideas and make them into law?"...

'Hot garbage': Ex-GOP lawmaker calls out anti-Biden Dems who are 'beating themselves'

'Hot garbage': Ex-GOP lawmaker calls out anti-Biden Dems who are 'beating themselves'

If Joe Biden loses against Donald Trump in 2024, it will be the fault of Democrats who started eating their own, according to a former GOP lawmaker.

Former Republican representative David Jolly (FL) appeared on MSNBC's Alex Witt Reports on Sunday, and was asked about the recent actions of Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI), who recently endorsed a protest vote against the current president.

"How much could the opposition, in general, from within his own party, hurt President Biden in the campaign?" the host asked....

DeSantis 'exudes bad faith' — and voters can see right through him: Ex-Republican lawmaker

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis is falling behind in the Republican primary because his entire political career is an exercise in "bad faith," former Rep. David Jolly (R-FL) said on MSNBC Tuesday.

This comes as the governor, once touted by D.C. strategists and key GOP megadonors as the party's solution to move beyond former President Donald Trump, is mired 30 points behind the former president and not even cracking double digits in New Hampshire, and as he replaces his campaign manager in yet another effort to "reboot" his candidacy.

"Let's take this in two parts," said anchor Alicia Menendez. "Let's talk about the campaign reboot and then let's talk about the fact that he's not actually learning a lesson understanding, David, these two things very much happened in tandem. You can switch up your leadership, but if you're not willing to fundamentally change as a candidate, I'm not sure that's going to be the magic that you're looking for."...

Former GOP congressman explains why Supreme Court expansion might help beat Trumpism

Former GOP congressman explains why Supreme Court expansion might help beat Trumpism

President Joe Biden has condemned the latest series of far-right Supreme Court rulings this term — but he is not enthusiastic about the idea of legislation to expand the number of seats on the court, warning that it would be a "mistake" that would "politicize it maybe forever."

But that ship sailed long ago, argued former Congressman David Jolly (R-FL) on MSNBC Wednesday — in fact, it may be one of the only options to bring balance to the justice system.

"If [right-wing judges] have to perjure themselves, they'll get on this court and get rid of Roe v. Wade, check. Get rid of LGBTQ rights, check. They're on the way to doing that. They're rolling back the Warren Court and the 20th century," said anchor Joy Reid. "What do you make of the fact that Republicans don't seem to believe they can do that through persuasion? They don't believe their case is strong enough to make through the political process that they're deciding this court is going to do it for them?"...
