'About time!' Social media delights as right-wing podcaster gets sued

Far-right podcaster Candace Owens is facing gibes on social media now that news has broken about a defamation lawsuit brought by French President Emmanuelle Macron and his wife, Brigitte.

The 218-page suit was filed in Delaware on Wednesday, accusing Owens of publishing “outlandish, defamatory, and far-fetched fictions”, including that she "is in fact a man," born under the name Jean-Michel Trogneux.

According to the suit, Owens broadcast that she would "stake [her] entire professional reputation on the fact that Brigitte Macron [The First Lady of France] is in fact a man."...

'Nebulous fear' surrounds Trump enemy over her new book launch: report

As E. Jean Carroll prepares to release a book about her literal trials and tribulations with Donald Trump, writer Jessica Bennett with The Cut wrote of the "nebulous fear of what the president might do" once the tell-all hits store shelves.

"This is Trump. Your guess is as good as mine," said Carroll's publicist, while Carroll herself exclaimed, "Nobody knows!"

Fear of presidential reprisal after Trump won the 2024 election led Carroll and her editor to take precautions. They moved their conversations to an encrypted app, delivered proofs by hand, and required booksellers to sign Non Disclosure Agreements....

Nancy Mace sued for defamation after sharing sex abuse allegations in House floor speech

One of the four men accused of sexual abuse by Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) in a speech on the floor of the House of Representatives is suing the congresswoman for defamation in a case set to test the speech or debate clause of the U.S. Constitution, according to Politico.

The clause "provides a legal shield for members of Congress for acts taken as part of their roles as lawmakers, including 'any Speech or Debate in either House,'" the article stated.

In February, Mace said on the House floor that she was raped, sex trafficked, and nonconsensually filmed by her ex-fiancé, South Carolina businessman Patrick Bryant, and three other men. Bryant categorically denied Mace's accusations....

Defamed election workers ask bankruptcy judge to gag Rudy Giuliani over continued attacks

Defamed election workers ask bankruptcy judge to gag Rudy Giuliani over continued attacks

Atlanta poll workers Ruby Freeman and Shaye Moss are asking a federal bankruptcy judge to issue an injunction barring Rudy Giuliani from continuing to make defamatory statements about them, reported Politico's Kyle Cheney on Friday evening.

In the document filed with the court, Freeman and Moss, who have already won a $148 million civil judgment against Giuliani for his repeated claims that they mishandled ballots in Georgia during the 2020 presidential election, argue that the former prosecutor and New York City mayor is continuing to sully their reputations.

"Undeterred by facts, logic, decency, professional discipline, court orders in multiple jurisdictions, a criminal indictment, a multimillion dollar jury verdict, or declaring bankruptcy as a result, Mr. Giuliani has entered year four of intentionally defaming Ms. Freeman and Ms. Moss — repeating the very same lies that Plaintiffs engaged in fraud during their service as election workers during the 2020 presidential election," said the filing....

'E. Jean Carroll's cash machine': Social media pounces on Trump's defamation gaffe

Donald Trump Saturday said more about E. Jean Carroll, the columnist he was found liable for sexually assaulting and defaming while denying her assault allegations, than he has said at prior engagements. That opened him up to new litigation, as well as several hurtful comments from political onlookers posting on social media.

Referencing a recent bond he had to pay due to the latest Carroll trial, Trump said at a rally in Georgia, "91 million based on false accusations made about me by a woman that I knew nothing about, didn't know. Never heard of. I know nothing about her."

This led one former federal prosecutor to proclaim that Carroll might sue Trump yet again....

Legal expert says Trump 'certainly' just welcomed a new defamation suit at Georgia rally

Donald Trump recently posted a bond for more than $90 million in connection with a civil suit in which he was found liable for defaming columnist E. Jean Carroll, who a jury found was sexually assaulted by the former president in the 1990s. At a rally on Saturday, he opened himself up to more litigation on that same front, according to a legal expert.

Former federal prosecutor Shan Wu appeared on CNN Newsroom Live, where the host played a video of Trump speaking at a rally just minutes earlier. At the rally, Trump raised the issue of the massive bond.

"91 million based on false accusations made about me by a woman that I knew nothing about, didn't know," Trump said. "Never heard of. I know nothing about her." ...
