Dems flip deep red state senate seat in massive overnight 'shock upset'

Donald Trump went to bat hard for a Republican running for a Texas state senate seat, but ultimately Democrats had a massive "shock upset" instead.

According to the Hill, "Democrats scored a stunning upset on Saturday in a special election runoff for Texas Senate, according to a projection from Decision Desk HQ, giving the party a major boost ahead of the November midterms. Fort Worth Democrat Taylor Rehmet, a machinist and Air Force veteran, defeated Southlake Republican Leigh Wambsganss to fill the vacant state Senate District 9."

Congress is currently embroiled in intense debate over spending, with key points of debate centering around funding for health care, particularly around funding for the Affordable Care Act, which offers government health insurance subsidies for eligible Americans. The White House had a bill signing ceremony scheduled for Friday morning at 9 a.m. However, as Jeffries continues to speak, Punchbowl News' Jake Sherman said that the ceremony has been pushed back to 5 p.m.

Members of Congress generally return home for Independence Day parades and other events in their districts, but Trump's ceremony will keep them in D.C. for the full July 4 holiday, according to the new reporting....

George Santos threatens to quit Congress if GOP works with Dems on speaker deal: reports

Embattled Rep. George Santos, the New York Republican who is currently under indictment for alleged fraud, reportedly threatened Saturday to resign from his position if Republicans reach a deal with Democrats to elect a speaker of the House.

Santos has been a supporter of Jim Jordan as speaker, and admitted he felt spurned by the earlier GOP nominee, Steve Scalise, who Santos said never called him to jockey for the congressman's support in a vote.

After Scalise dropped out of the race, Jordan became the nominee, but there are serious doubts as to whether he can unite the conference in such a way that he gets the necessary votes for becoming speaker....

Dems invite Americans to wedding between GOP and Big Oil

WASHINGTON – As rising gas prices top the concerns of many Americans, Democrats are capitalizing on the moment to portray Republicans as wedded to the oil industry -- and they're invoking the royal wedding to make their point.
