An Orangevale man pleaded not guilty Wednesday after he was arrested last week on suspicion of detonating an improvised explosive device and planting several others across El Dorado and Sacramento counties. Benjamin Cunha, 41, was arrested last Friday after an investigation by the FBI, California Highway Patrol and El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office, the CHP and Sheriff’s Office said in statements. Cunha was arraigned on several felony charges including possessing and exploding an explosive device with the “intent to injure, intimidate, and terrify a person, and to wrongfully injure and destroy......

A congressional staffer has reportedly been fired after footage featuring him and another man seemingly having sex in the Hart Senate Office Building on Capitol Hill was leaked online. The eight-second clip was published by the Daily Caller alongside an article penned by Henry Rodgers, who reported that the video was initially shared in a group chat for gay men in politics. The video appears to show a pair of men copulating in Hart 216, the same room where the 9/11 commission hearings were held and former FBI Director James Comey delivered testimony about Donald Trump in 2017, according to Pol......

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Bobby Singh carefully read the details contained in the federal indictment made public this week alleging a plot by the Indian government to assassinate Sikh activists in the U.S. Then Singh, a Sacramento State student and local leader in the movement to create an independent Sikh state, came upon an especially chilling detail: One of the targets, an unnamed person, was in California. “Could this be me?” he wondered. Singh has good reason to consider that possibility. Like many Sikh activists in the Central Valley and Bay Area, Singh’s life has been a surreal mix of sadnes......

NEW YORK — One of the threads federal investigators are tugging at in their probe of Mayor Eric Adams’ 2021 campaign and its connections to Turkey is his travel to that Middle Eastern country over the years, sources confirmed to the New York Daily News. Adams has said he traveled to Turkey up to seven times, but he’s offered little detail about what what he did there — nor is it clear exactly what the feds are looking for in this aspect of their probe. While details of four of Adams’ Turkey trips have been reported in the media to date, a fifth planned trip whose details have not been previous......

NEW YORK — New York City Mayor Eric Adams has created a legal defense trust in response to the FBI probe into his 2021 campaign finances. The fund — first reported by Politico — will allow Adams to raise money to cover legal expenses “in connection with inquiries by the office of the United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York (‘SDNY’) related to the operations of the Eric Adams 2021 mayoral campaign committee,” according to an agreement posted with the city’s Conflicts of Interest Board. It’s unclear when Adams started the fund, but the COIB site shows a letter dated Nov. 13 ......

NEW YORK — Mayor Adams admitted Tuesday that he reached out to the head of the FDNY in 2021 to resolve a building safety issue on behalf of the Turkish government — an episode that has caught the attention of federal authorities investigating the mayor’s campaign as part of a public corruption probe. As first revealed Sunday, the feds, who seized Adams’ cellphones and iPad last week in the probe, are scrutinizing the mayor for asking then-FDNY Commissioner Daniel Nigro in September 2021 to look into quickly dispensing with fire safety violations detected at Turkey’s Consulate in Manhattan, whi......
