Ex-ICE official aghast as Trump officials hatch ‘prison ships’ plot for immigrants: NYT

The Trump administration is weighing a costly new immigration enforcement tool that a former official warns “raises serious concerns at every step.”

Officials have held early talks about loading migrants onto ships, including ferries and a 500-foot former training vessel, and sailing them to Central and South America, The New York Times reported Thursday, citing two U.S. officials.

The trips could stretch for days and cost millions of dollars apiece, far more than the deportation flights the government already relies on....

Dismay after Supreme Court hands Trump a win with 'evil' order: 'Reckless cruelty'

Critics accused the Supreme Court of "rubber stamping death sentences" after it let President Donald Trump resume sending immigrants to countries that are not their own.

On Tuesday, the Supreme Court handed down a ruling in favor of what are called third-country deportations, which critics worry will force immigrants to dangerous countries accused of human rights abuses. The unsigned emergency order allows the Trump administration to restart the rapid removal of immigrants to countries other than their own while the court prepares to hear arguments on the policy in December.

The three liberal justices said they would have denied the government's request. A federal court had blocked the removals unless migrants were given a chance to contest them, including by raising fears that they would be persecuted or tortured abroad....

Supreme Court hands Trump a major victory in stunning reversal

The Supreme Court on Tuesday allowed the Trump administration to resume deporting immigrants to countries other their own, including those with human rights abuse allegations.

According to multiple reports, the Supreme Court allowed the Trump administration to restart what are also known as third-country violations. Legal report Chris Geidner reported that the court's Democratic appointees dissented. The New York Times noted that the Trump administration can, for the time being, resume rapid deportations to countries like Equatorial Guinea, where deportees have been beaten by the police, as well as countries like Liberia, Honduras and the Central African Republic.

Geidner added that the Supreme Court will hear arguments on the case in December....

ICE nabs Dreamer visiting his premature baby in intensive care: report

A father has been nabbed by ICE agents just 12 days after the premature birth of his daughter.

Juan Chavez Velasco, 35, was grabbed by Immigration and Customs Enforcement while on his way to deliver milk to the newborn in Weslaco, Texas. Immigration agents pulled in front of his car and hauled him off despite Chavez telling the team he had a wife in the hospital and he was protected by DACA. The deferred action for childhood arrivals response did little for the agents, who said it "doesn't matter" and took Chavez away.

Chavez, who says he "never got to hold" his child before being taken by ICE agents to Webb County Detention Center, is one of a growing number of Dreamers who believed they were protected by DACA before being nabbed by agents. ...

Hispanic Caucus warns Minneapolis: Trump aide Homan lied about ICE drawdowns before

WASHINGTON — Border czar Tom Homan’s goodwill tour continues, but members of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus aren’t buying it.

In Minneapolis on Thursday, Homan — who as an aide to President Donald Trump has vowed to “run the biggest deportation force this country has ever seen” — announced the end of the immigration crackdown that has upended the city and roiled the nation.

On Capitol Hill, Homan’s claim that ICE is pulling out, after federal agents killed two protesters in three weeks, was met with suspicion from leading members of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus. ...

'Chilled out of the labor force': watchdog sounds alarm as ICE spreads child care panic

Increased arrests by immigration enforcement agents under the second Trump administration have created a “chilling effect” on the child care industry, resulting in a decrease in workers and in turn less mothers in the workforce, according to a new report from New America, a progressive Washington think tank.

Unveiled on Wednesday, “The Impact of Increased ICE Activity on the Child Care Workforce and Mothers’ Employment,” revealed that 77,000 U.S.-born mothers with children aged 0 to 5 dropped out of the workforce between January 2025 and July 2025 due to “the rise in immigration enforcement,” said Chris Herbst, a report author.

In 2025, mothers’ labor force participation declined by 3 percent, Herbst said....
