Washington (AFP) - Three years ago, Derrick Evans was taking part in the January 6, 2021,  assault on the US Capitol, joining hundreds of other Donald Trump supporters who refused to accept his defeat in the presidential election.  Now he is campaigning to serve in the very legislative body he targeted that day. And he's not alone: across the United States, around a dozen people involved in the siege of the Capitol -- an attack that shook confidence in the stability of American democracy -- have sought or are seeking to hold local or national office this year.   Evans is running in his state's......

There is MAGA and then there is Derrick Evans, a candidate for the Republican nomination in West Virginia’s 1st Congressional District.

Slated to appear alongside Greene is Derrick Evans, a former West Virginia state lawmaker who served a three-month prison sentence for impeding law enforcement at the Capitol on Jan. 6, and Ann Vandersteel, a far-right media personality who promoted the “Pizzagate” conspiracy theory and is a tribune of the far-right anti-government sovereign citizen movement.

Billed as an opportunity to honor World War II veterans, the event featuring Greene is scheduled to take place at a church in Vero Beach, Fla. The event is co-hosted by the Indian River County GOP, which has posted notice of the event on its Facebook page, and the Vero Beach chapter of Conservative Watch USA....
