Former MSNBC Mehdi Hasan was taken aback when a former White House official blamed Trump's staff for giving the president bad information.

Hasan, who founded independent news site Zeteo, asked former Trump chief-of-staff Mick Mulvaney "to explain Trump's insane defense of the doctored image of Kilmar Abrego Garcia's knuckles" as justification for deportation.

"He was the man sent illegally to El Salvador by the Trump administration," Hasan said of Abrego Garcia. "They tried to justify his deportation by saying he was an MS-13 gang leader. Trump put out a picture, he held up a picture of his knuckles, showing 'MS-13' photoshopped onto his hand."...

Salvadoran migrant Kilmar Abrego Garcia has been ordered released from federal custody as he awaits trial in the United States on human smuggling charges.

U.S. District Judge Waverly Crenshaw upheld a magistrate judge's ruling Wednesday that Abrego Garcia did not pose a public safety threat or flight risk if released to his family.

Abrego Garcia, who had been living in Maryland, was inadvertently deported and imprisoned in El Salvador before congressional intervention landed him back in the United States....

The Trump administration has made a "significant concession" in the case of Kilmar Abrego Garcia after claiming earlier this month that it would "immediately" take the El Salvadorian migrant into ICE custody for deportation if he was freed from a federal prison.

Fox News reported that administration lawyers agreed Monday to keep Abrego Garcia in custody in the United States for at least a 30-day period.

"The agreement appears to be a significant concession from the Trump administration, and comes after senior Trump administration officials told a federal judge in Maryland earlier this month that they plan to 'immediately' take Abrego Garcia into ICE custody pending release from federal criminal custody in Tennessee and begin removal proceedings to a third country, regardless of the status of his criminal trial," the report said....

The anguished family of a Trump deportee shipped off to a brutal prison in El Salvador four months ago is begging the administration for any sign that he might still be alive.

Andry José Hernández Romero, 32, had applied for asylum in the United States, "citing the conditions he faced as a gay man and political dissident in Venezuela," according to reporting in Salon.

Romero's attorney told Salon that he had "applied for asylum the right way — by scheduling an appointment and presenting himself at a port of entry — and yet was languishing behind bars" at a privately-run prison along the U.S.-Mexico border....

When Jose and Josue Trejo Lopez landed in El Salvador after their deportation flight in May, they had no idea who would meet them or where they would live.

The brothers, 20 and 19, respectively, said they know no one in the country they left as children nearly a decade before to escape gang violence, coming to the U.S. to seek asylum with their mother, who entered the country illegally.

“When we got to the [U.S.], we were little guys,” Jose told Raw Story via Zoom from El Salvador, where the brothers have been staying for two months with a 69-year-old man, a childhood friend of their grandmother....

President Donald Trump pleaded ignorance on Wednesday when asked about reports his administration was looking to deport prisoners to Libya, in addition to El Salvador.

Last week, CNN's Priscilla Alvarez reported on X, "The Trump admin has discussed with Libya and Rwanda the possibility of sending migrants who have criminal records to those two countries."

Wednesday, CNN's Natasha Bertrand posted, "The Trump admin is moving forward with plans to transport a group of undocumented immigrants to Libya on a US military plane, an admin official says. Flight trackers show that a US Air Force C-17 has filed a plan to fly on Wednesday from Kelly Field in San Antonio to Misrata Airport in Libya." ...
