A security expert warned that the confirmation of Trump's new spy chief marks a "really alarming moment."

During an appearance on CNN, Paul Rieckhoff said that the confirmation of Jay Clayton as Director of National Intelligence shows that Trump rewards loyalty above all else. Rieckhoff made the warning as CNN panelists spoke about Trump threatening upcoming elections and as Senate votes came in to confirm Clayton as the new head of America's 18 intelligence agencies.

"Standards don't matter. Competency doesn't matter. Independence doesn't matter. Loyalty matters," Rieckhoff said. "This is a really alarming moment that we shouldn't normalize."...

A former White House insider revealed that President Donald Trump ignored a "serious" threat in 2018 to fixate on China.

During an interview on the Court of History podcast, Miles Taylor, the former Department of Homeland Security chief of staff, detailed Trump's dismissal of the threat. Taylor said that it happened during a 2018 intelligence briefing on the threat posed by Russia.

"You should have seen our jaws hit the floor in September of 2018, when we had briefed Trump on all the threats to our elections," Taylor said, describing a scene from the first Trump administration. "The only one he seemed to key in on is, 'Wait, the Chinese might not support me. I'm going to go call them out instead of calling out the other threat actors, ' we said, who might meddle."...

Trump's declassification chief floated a Venezuela vote-fraud theory his own newly released CIA note flatly contradicts, a legal expert found.

The co-leader of President Donald Trump's declassification task force, John Solomon, made the slip-up moments after Trump wrapped up his primetime address on the renewed unfounded election meddling claims related to his 2020 election loss, legal reporter Adam Klasfeld said in an episode of Legal AF.

During an interview on MS NOW, Solomon was pressed by Vaughn Hillyard over whether votes were changed in the 2020 election. Solomon acknowledged that intelligence officials have zero evidence a foreign actor flipped a vote in 2020, 2022, or 2024, Klasfeld explained....

Online critics scoffed at threats from the head of the Department of Homeland Security that he would mandate election changes.

At a press conference where DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin threatened to jail state officials, he also said that he plans to make "mandatory" changes to elections, including having states "scrub" their voter rolls. Mullin's remarks came the day after Trump delivered a speech about supposed election security vulnerabilities.

While reactions were swift to his threat to jail state officials who don't cooperate, with blue states daring him to follow through, online critics pointed out that Mullin doesn't have any power to implement the sweeping election changes he planned to mandate....

A CNN anchor threw the election security comments of Trump press secretary Karoline Leavitt back in her face.

On Thursday, Kasie Hunt spoke about President Donald Trump's upcoming speech on election security. The Trump administration has kept details under wraps, saying only that new evidence of election meddling will be presented.

Leavitt told reporters, however, that the speech "will shock you if you have an honest eye, listening to the president tonight, and everything he is saying will be backed by facts and by evidence that will be provided this evening."...

A CNN panel broke out into a fiery debate as pundits tried to understand Trump's comments about his upcoming speech.

During a panel discussion hosted by CNN anchor Abby Phillip, conservative pundit and former Republican New York City Council member Joe Borelli spoke about Trump's announcement that he would give a speech about election security on Thursday. However, Borelli was more concerned with the assumption that Trump would make false statements about elections during that upcoming speech.

"Why are we presupposing that whatever the president says, whether it's evidence or it's opinion or there's some new evidence that a foreign government tried to hack our elections, why are we presupposing what the [Department of Justice], what the president, what the White House is saying is false?" Borelli asked. "There's a reason that we're at a big news program here, prejudging."...
