CNN legal analyst Elliot Williams on Monday had a sharp critique for Attorney General Todd Blanche after President Donald Trump's former personal attorney's interview with NBC News.

Blanche said on NBC's "Meet the Press" Sunday that he would not pledge the Department of Justice will always act independently — and Williams called out why that was troubling during a segment with CNN anchor Kasie Hunt.

"That statement there is exactly why the world hates lawyers," Williams said. "We hate ourselves because of things like that."...

Former federal prosecutor Elliot Williams pumped the brakes on what he called a "preposterous" suggestion repeatedly made by President Donald Trump that Williams maintained was unconstitutional and had no chance of being enforced.

At an Oval Office meeting Monday with El Salvador's president, Trump voiced his "willingness" to send American-born criminals to Salvadoran prisons, claiming, "I'm all for it."

Trump has already struck a $6 million deal with the Central American nation to imprison alleged gang members and other undocumented migrants deported from the United States. Earlier this month, Trump said that if El Salvador would take American prisoners, "I would be honored to give them."...

CNN special correspondent Jamie Gangel called "furious" U.S. District Judge James Boasberg's take down of Department of Justice officials a "message" to the entire administration that their continued challenges to the U.S. judicial system "is not acceptable."

DOJ attorneys appeared before Boasberg on Friday, where they continued to defend the administration’s failure to comply with a court order to return flights carrying alleged Venezuelan gang members to a prison in El Salvador.

According to The Washington Post, the judge "dramatically scolded" deputy assistant attorney general Drew Ensign "over the government’s conduct in the case." ...
