Washington (AFP) - Donald Trump's social media account on Tuesday removed a video showing fake headlines about a "unified reich" if he wins the 2024 US election, as his rival President Joe Biden fiercely condemned the post. Trump's campaign blamed an inattentive staffer for reposting the 30-second clip, which flashed a series of fictitious news stories painting a picture of American prosperity, with one including the term normally associated with Nazi Germany. "This is the same guy that uses Hitler's language, not America's," Biden told donors during a fundraiser in Boston. "It's no surprise" ......

The number of people in poor health worldwide has climbed by almost 50% since the turn of the millennium, with many at risk of dying prematurely due to being overweight with high blood pressure and blood sugar. People face "increasing exposure to risk factors," including "low physical activity, and diet high in sugar-sweetened beverages," said Greg Roth of the Seattle-based Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME). Roth and fellow researchers found a 49.4% increase in "lost years of healthy life due to poor health and early death," which they said were "attributable to metabolism-rel......

Washington (AFP) - Blue Origin is set to fly adventurers to the final frontier on Sunday for the first time in nearly two years, reigniting competition in the space tourism market after a rocket mishap put its crewed operations on hold. Six people including Black sculptor and former Air Force pilot Ed Dwight, who was controversially spurned by NASA's astronaut corps in the 1960s, will blast off at around 8:30 am local time (1330 GMT) from the company's Launch Site One base in west Texas.  Dwight -- at 90 years, 8 months and 10 days -- is set to become the oldest person to go to space, narrowly......

San Francisco (AFP) - Artificial intelligence built on mountains of potentially biased information has created a real risk of automating discrimination, but is there any way to re-educate the machines? The question for some is extremely urgent. In this ChatGPT era, AI will generate more and more decisions for health care providers, bank lenders or lawyers, using whatever was scoured from the internet as source material.  AI's underlying intelligence, therefore, is only as good as the world it came from, as likely to be filled with wit, wisdom, and usefulness, as well as hatred, prejudice and r......

Louisville (United States) (AFP) - Top-ranked Scottie Scheffler struggled to his first over-par round of the year in Saturday's third round of the PGA championship a day after being arrested while his attorney denied charges the golfer assaulted a police officer. Scheffler, arrested Friday morning after a confrontation with police at the entrance to Valhalla Golf Club, returned from jail to fire an adrenaline-fueled five-under par 66 on Friday to pull within three shots of the lead. But on Saturday, the two-time Masters champion stumbled with a double bogey at the second hole followed by back-......

Los Angeles (AFP) - A lawyer who was the architect of a plan to subvert the 2020 election and return Donald Trump to the White House denied all charges against him when he appeared in an Arizona court Friday. John Eastman is the first of 18 people charged in the battleground state to appear in court over the scheme to empanel fake electors to support their favored candidate.  Others include Trump's former personal lawyer Rudy Giuliani, one-time Trump White House chief of staff Mark Meadows, attorney Jenna Ellis and campaign adviser Boris Epshteyn. Eastman on Friday entered not guilty pleas to ......
