'That was crazy': New York Times report divides MAGA — and leads to CNN fact check

A recent New York Times article about dark money in American politics led one outgoing mayor to lob allegations against a former presidential candidate, leading to division among MAGA and a fact check.

The NYT recently published an article called "Nearly $900 Million Flowed in Secret to Help Harris and Trump in 2024." One of the authors of the piece, Teddy Schleifer, took to social media, writing, "One donor gave $97.5 million to a nonprofit that gave $250 million to Kamala Harris's super PAC."

"You'll never know who the donor is. Hello to our campaign-finance system!" he wrote, attaching the article stating that the donor was anonymous and that millions were sent in by "Future Forward USA Action, the so-called dark-money group of the main super PAC backing" Joe Biden and Harris....

'Snake and a liar!' Eric Adams fumes over rumors he's exiting NYC mayoral race

New York City Mayor Eric Adams called former Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D-NY) "a snake and a liar," firing back at rumors that he's leaving the mayoral race.

“I want to be clear with you. Andrew Cuomo is a snake and a liar. I am in this race and I’m the only one that can beat Mamdani,” Adams announced Friday in New York City.

After reports surfaced that President Donald Trump wanted to offer him an administration role to pull him out of the race and give Cuomo a path to victory, and defeat Zohran Mamdani. Adams was clear that he had no plans to step away. ...

'This is serious': Trump plans 'audacious' move to swing election result

In a sharp move to give former Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D-NY) a push to defeat Democrat and front-runner Zohran Mamdani in the New York City mayor's race this November, advisors to President Donald Trump say he's considered giving Mayor Eric Adams an administration position.

Adams was offered a position at the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, an anonymous person with direct knowledge told Politico. Adams denied the reports, saying he is not dropping out of the race.

Polls show Adams trails in fourth place, and the possible move could aim to potentially damage Mamdani's chances in the general election and give Cuomo a path to victory, The New York Times reports. Insiders also shared that the administration is looking for a role for Republican candidate Curtis Sliwa....

'Show me your badge!' NYC mayoral candidate arrested by ICE

New York City Comptroller Brad Lander (D), who's running to be the city's next mayor, was arrested by ICE agents at an immigration court in Lower Manhattan on Tuesday.

Politico's Jeff Coltin posted the arrest video to X, writing, "Mayoral candidate Brad Lander was cuffed and detained by ICE agents after asking to see a warrant for people who were detained after an immigration hearing. Video from the city comptroller’s press secretary @chloecbristow. She says he’s still being held in 26 Federal Plaza."

amNewYork reported, "The city’s elected financial watchdog, and a Democratic candidate for mayor, appeared at 26 Federal Plaza on the morning of June 17 to observe immigration hearings involving individuals marked for potential deportation. Lander’s arrest, which amNewYork observed, occurred as the comptroller and his staff walked arm-in-arm with an immigrant whom federal agents — representing ICE, the FBI and the Treasury Department, each of whom wearing masks to conceal their faces — moved to seize after a court hearing. Moments earlier, the immigrant had their case dismissed pending appeal."...

'Foreseeable tragedy': NY State lawmakers slam mayor's support of helicopter tours

New York State lawmakers are slamming Mayor Eric Adams and those who continue support helicopter tourism, in the wake of a tragic crash that killed a family of five plus the pilot.

Harrowing video showed the helicopter falling out of the sky and smashing into the Hudson River Thursday afternoon. The victims were later identified as a family from Spain who were taking the ride to celebrate a family member's birthday.

Authorities said Siemens executive Agustin Escobar, 49, his wife Merce Comprubi Montal, and their three young children, ages 4, 5 and 11 were killed. The name of the pilot has not yet been released....

Multiple top NYC officials set to quit over Eric Adams scandal: report

At least four deputy mayors to Eric Adams are expected to resign amid fury over the Donald Trump administration's order to dismiss charges against the New York City leader, according to a new report.

The resignations would be the latest fallout following accusations that Adams was involved in a "quid pro quo" agreement with Trump to get rid of corruption charges in exchange for backing the president's immigration agenda.

Last week, seven federal prosecutors resigned as the Department of Justice dropped the corruption charges. The legal move came after Adams, a Democrat, publicly agreed to work with the Trump administration's efforts to rid New York City of undocumented migrants....
