CNN pundit Jonah Goldberg struggled to make sense of the Trump administration's threat against late-night host Jimmy Kimmel.

Kimmel revealed upon his return to "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" on Wednesday that he interviewed James Talarico, the Democratic nominee for Senate in Texas, but ABC, the home of Kimmel's show, pulled the interview and will air it on YouTube instead because of fears about the FCC's threat to late-night hosts over equal airtime for political candidates.

Goldberg, a veteran conservative political analyst, said that the Trump administration's threat didn't make sense and tore into the move during a Thursday roundtable discussion on CNN....

A top FCC official pushed back Friday on President Donald Trump's demand that the agency revoke the broadcast licenses of ABC and NBC after the networks refused to air his primetime address, according to reports.

FCC Commissioner Anna Gomez, the only Democrat on the FCC, made her position known in a post on X.

"It is ridiculous to call for broadcasters to lose their license simply for making the same editorial decisions they've made under presidents of both parties, especially when the remarks were still available to anyone who wanted to watch them online," Gomez wrote. ...

The Trump administration was facing an army of furious fans and advocates of "The View" after ABC called on people to fight back against the agency's probe.

More than 77,000 comments were filed with the FCC by defenders of the long-running daytime talk show, which reportedly prompted the show to make booking changes this week.

Viewers voiced concern that the show's producers, hosts, and journalists — not the FCC — should decide who appears on air. Inside sources revealed to Semafor that “The View,” the top-rated daytime talk show on television, succumbed to pressure from the Trump administration’s Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and “changed [its] programing,” the outlet reported Sunday night.

Back in February, FCC Chairman Brendan Carr announced that his agency was investigating the program for potential violations of a 1934 rule that mandates certain media stations provide equal time to political candidates. As noted by Semafor, “since then, the ABC talk show hasn’t featured a single political candidate running in a competitive midterm race.”

“The inquiry itself has been enough to force the network to hedge which guests appear on the show, a notable departure from The View’s previous booking decisions,” Semafor’s report reads....
