Revealed: What government officials privately shared about Trump not disclosing finances

In April 2023, as Donald Trump continued to delay submitting a personal financial disclosure required for all presidential candidates, federal government officials responsible for compelling Trump’s compliance mused over whether the former president would simply ignore them.

After all, these government officials are lawyers at the U.S. Office of Government Ethics — the very kind of “deep state” denizens that Trump has vowed to purge if he wins the White House in November.

And they had good reason to believe Trump might simply go rogue: the former president and 2024 Republican presidential candidate had already blown past a final, mid-March federal deadline for offering up details about his personal wealth. ...

‘Grab any cheerleaders?’ Fans decry Trump’s S.C. football appearance as a ‘terrible look’

A University of South Carolina alumnus and donor said he would still keep his upcoming meeting about funding an endowment for the school’s Honors College.

But the donor was furious and appalled at the school for introducing former President Donald Trump on the field at halftime of last November’s football game against Clemson. Dressed in a blue suit and striped tie, Trump smiled, clapped and waved to the crowd, which showered him with a mixture of cheers and jeers.

“Give me a reason to believe in USC again,” the email to Athletics Director Ray Tanner said. “Give me a reason to consider establishing an endowment. Because at this moment I’m questioning the leadership of the athletic department and the university, and wondering if my money is better off being spent elsewhere, where truth, morality, and human decency matter.”

Raw Story files lawsuit against the Pentagon and Navy

WASHINGTON — Raw Story today filed a federal lawsuit against the U.S. Department of Defense and U.S. Department of the Navy following the agencies’ refusal to release records related to a former U.S. Marine and avowed neo-Nazi.

In May, Raw Story investigative reporter Jordan Green filed a Freedom of Information Act request with the U.S. Navy for “memoranda, emails, correspondence or other documents” related to the former Marine, Jordan Duncan, who the government has accused of participating in a white supremacist terror plot and possessing classified government documents.

The U.S. Navy denied Raw Story’s request and subsequent appeal of that denial, citing Duncan’s privacy interests. Duncan, who has been detained since his arrest in 2020, is charged with conspiracy to illegally manufacture and transport firearms and conspiracy to damage an energy facility. ...

‘Protect them’: How S.C.’s honor-bound military college camouflaged its connection to Rudy Giuliani

The Honor Code of The Citadel, South Carolina’s 181-year-old military college, states that cadets “will not lie, cheat or steal, nor tolerate those who do.”

But The Citadel now finds itself quietly tolerating one of its most recognizable honorary degree recipients — Rudy Giuliani — who, in the estimation of the U.S. House’s January 6 select committee, lied and cheated while attempting to steal the 2020 presidential election away from its duly elected winner, Joe Biden.

“Mr. Giuliani’s effort to undermine the integrity of the 2020 presidential election has helped destabilize our democracy,” a DC Bar Association panel wrote last month in recommending Giuliani, who served as former President Donald Trump’s personal lawyer, be disbarred. “The misconduct here sadly transcends all his past accomplishments.”...
