Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent is repeating the same doomed bond-market play he once got rich betting against, according to an economic analyst.

Catherine Rampell, economics editor at The Bulwark, made the case on an episode of her podcast "Receipts" on Tuesday as she and journalist Sam Stein picked apart Bessent's recent interview with Axios, in which he stood by telling markets last month, "I am the house now."

"No, 'cause look, the house doesn't win every hand," Bessent told Axios. "The house plays the percentages." He conceded he may have "hurt some fragile egos on Wall Street."...

One of Trump's own cabinet members compared him to his liberal nemesis, according to a new report.

In the book Regime Change, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent is revealed to say that Trump is the same as billionaire liberal donor George Soros, according to reporting by The Guardian.

"Trump reminded him...of his old boss, the legendary investor and major Democratic donor George Soros," reads a passage of the book shared by The Guardian in which Bessent speaks to his associates. "'They are the same animal,' Bessent said."...

A legal expert is enraged by the Trump White House's new Myspace spoof website launched during the government shutdown, saying "I can't believe this is real" and calling the move "disgusting."

Eliza Orlins, a public defender and former Manhattan district attorney candidate, said in an Instagram reel that the White House launched a page on its website called "Mysafespace" to attack Democrats and mock them with racist and sexist "jokes" about Minority Leader Rep. Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY), Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and other leaders.

“The official White House website has launched something called 'mysafespace.' It’s hosted on the actual .gov website that your government tax dollars are paying for during the shutdown," Orlins said....

Billionaires George and Alex Soros are throwing their support — and likely millions in campaign donations — behind Kamala Harris in her bid for the presidency.

In the 24 hours since President Joe Biden dropped out of the race amid increasing concerns over his health and age, Democrats have rallied around Harris as the most viable candidate next in the line for the party nomination.

Among her supporters is 93-year-old Democratic megadonor George Soros, who confirmed his backing of Harris to The Wall Street Journal on Sunday. Soros made his fortune managing hedge funds and is a prolific philanthropist, reportedly giving away more than $32 billion to charitable causes....

Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) insisted on Fox News Friday, during a segment opposing the latest round of student loan forgiveness from the Biden administration, that the campus protesters are backed by a Hungarian-born Jewish billionaire philanthropist — and completely deflected when host Neil Cavuto asked her for any evidence of this.

"You've got groups that are funded by George Soros that are Palestinian rights groups that are involved, funded by George Soros, and they need to be off our college campuses if they're committing violence, full stop," said Mace.

"All right, there's no proof that these are funded by George Soros, by the way, and their folks have denied that," said Cavuto. "But we'll see exactly where all this money is coming from."...

Republicans love to attack George Soros, the left-leaning Hungarian-born Jewish billionaire philanthropist and Holocaust survivor who has contributed to a number of liberal and pro-democracy causes around the world. Often their criticisms stray into anti-Semitism, as well as a guilt-by-association logic where any politician whose projects have received funding from a group supported by Soros are but his puppets.

But ironically, by that logic, former President Donald Trump would have to be controlled by Soros too, reported The Daily Beast.

Soros, wrote Roger Sollenberger, is "like The Dude’s rug in The Big Lebowski — really tying the room together. Just add 'Soros-backed,' and watch it all magically, and antisemitically, come together. For instance, did your favorite ex-president get indicted for allegedly falsifying business records to conceal a hush-money payout to a porn star? There’s a Soros for that. Did a band of your favorite ex-president’s supporters launch a deadly pro-Nazi rally a few months after he was elected? There’s a Soros for that. Was your favorite ex-president’s Supreme Court nominee credibly accused of sexual assault? There’s a Soros for that. Are asylum-seekers attempting to seek refuge in your country, as sanctioned by international law? There’s a Soros for that."...
