Trump demands 'Washington Colossus' statue be enshrined at Smithsonian

In a late-night Truth Social post, President Donald Trump revealed that he asked the Smithsonian Institution to erect a 30-foot statue.

According to his post, Trump first asked the Smithsonian to install an 11-foot Washington statue before adding a 30-foot "Washington Colossus" in the place of its Infinity sculpture.

"I'm asking the Smithsonian to install the 11-foot Washington statue that was featured at the recent Freedom 250 Grand Prix Race in the Museum's Flag Hall, and dedicate it this Constitution Day, September 17, 2026," Trump wrote. He wants the Smithsonian to "immediately design and display a five-year exhibition worthy of the Life, Sacrifice, and Contributions of George Washington," Trump added....

Trump poses with George Washington in unhinged posting spree

President Donald Trump again took to Truth Social to dump a load of AI-generated images and ominous messages.

On Saturday afternoon, Trump returned to Truth Social after posting about his "GREAT!" relationship with North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un. He followed it up with a new string of images depicting him alongside George Washington and hints at a 2028 campaign.

The first image in his latest posting spree featured an AI-generated image of him sitting next to Washington while they both held quill pens and looked sternly forward. Their pens were oddly held over a map, but it was unclear why they would be drawing on it....

'Cadet Bone Spurs': scathing op-ed compares Trump to Founding Father

A New York Times editorial published on Independence Day ripped into Donald Trump by drawing a stark comparison between the president and the first man to hold his current office, George Washington.

Maureen Dowd spoke with the Pulitzer Prize-winning historian Ron Chernow, whose biography of Alexander Hamilton inspired the Lin-Manuel Miranda musical, about his views on Trump as opposed to Washington.

"[Washington] had this natural gravitas and dignity that I think is really essential to the office," said Chernow. "And now we have a president who, I suspect, has probably never read a history book.”

George W. Bush launches subtle Presidents' Day digs at Trump

Former President George W. Bush aimed subtle digs at Donald Trump in a Presidents' Day message — laying out observations about the nation's first leader amid the country's current troubled times.

The 43rd president of the United States described the significance behind George Washington's leadership in a Substack piece for In Pursuit. And although he never named Trump specifically, Bush presented several definitions of what leadership should look like and why Americans need it ahead of the nation's 250th anniversary.

"As president, I found great comfort and inspiration in reading about my predecessors and the qualities they embodied," Bush wrote. "Abraham Lincoln’s resolve, Harry Truman’s decisiveness, Ronald Reagan’s optimism, and others reminded me of the challenges America has faced – and of the values that have helped us overcome them."...

Attention Lincoln and Reagan: GOP senators scramble history with Trump greatness claim

Seismologists report that the chunks of granite falling from the Mount Rushmore National Memorial come from the laughter of Abraham Lincoln, George Washington, Thomas Jefferson and Theodore Roosevelt after they read a recent email blast from the National Republican Senatorial Committee.

Donald Trump is “the greatest president in American history,” the NRSC’s fundraising missive declared.

The group, whose purpose is electing Republicans to the Senate, isn’t known for having a staff of eminent historians. But that didn’t stop the NRSC from making the claim about Trump in an email urging people to sign an online birthday card for the former president and current putative Republican president nominee. Trump turns 78 on Friday....

How John Adams is helping bring down Donald Trump through the 14th Amendment

A previous version of this article incorrectly referenced the president who enacted the law, as well as the year it became effective. This information was based on an underlying report that has since been updated with its own correction.

The country awaits the Supreme Court weighing in on whether the 14th Amendment insurrection laws apply to Donald Trump as a former president.

Law & Crime cited a new scholarly paper that uses a 1799 law to show that the Amendment applies to him. ...
