'Bleak' polling has GOP strategists afraid to show anyone their own data: expert

Things have gotten so bad for Republicans heading into the midterms that some of their strategists don’t want anyone to see the polling, according to a top election analyst.

Jessica Taylor, Senate and governors editor for the Cook Political Report, said on MS NOW this weekend that a single conversation from last week captured the mood.

“The overall environment is just so bleak right now,” Taylor said. “I talked with one strategist last week and they said, you know, no one even wants to show anyone polls because they’re so bad right now.”...

GOP senators can't 'stop the bleeding' in red states as money fails to move needle: expert

Republicans are pouring money into Senate races in deep-red states, but there’s little sign yet that it’s working, according to a national political reporter who just got back from Kansas.

Elena Schneider, national political reporter for the Washington Sun, appeared over the weekend on MS NOW’s “The Weekend.” A panelist said White House officials had privately written off the House and were already preparing for Democratic-led investigations, but still saw the Senate as “a little bit of a wild card.” The panel then asked Schneider whether Republican spending would be “enough to stop the bleeding” in the upper chamber.

Schneider said she had spent the past several days in rural central Kansas, well outside the Democratic-leaning Kansas City suburbs of Johnson County....

'There ain't no way': Shock as GOP-aligned poll shows Dem winning ruby red state

Even Trafalgar Group, a pollster known for its Republican-friendly results, now has Democrat James Talarico leading Ken Paxton in the Texas Senate race.

Trafalgar’s chief pollster, Robert Cahaly, released the survey on Saturday. Talarico leads Paxton 47.1 percent to 43.6 percent, with Libertarian Ted Brown at 1.8 percent and 7.6 percent undecided. The poll surveyed 1,086 likely voters from Oct. 6 to 8 and has a 2.9-point margin of error.

GOP operative shatters MAGA hopes with warning there's 'nothing that Trump can do': report

A Republican operative working on battleground races offered a bleak verdict on whether President Donald Trump can still turn things around for his party.

This operative, who was granted anonymity to speak freely, told Politico in a report on Saturday that Trump has no moves left to reverse Republicans' sinking midterm prospects with Election Day weeks away and that voters wouldn't trust him if he tried.

"There's nothing that Trump can do, and frankly, even if he did something, no one would believe it anyway at this point," the GOP operative said. "The ship has sailed on any external event changing the dynamics of the election."...

'Big, undercovered story' flagged that may sink Trump's GOP in the midterms

Donald Trump has lost independent voters, and according to the New Republic’s Greg Sargent, the press is missing the whole story.

“It’s a big, undercovered story. His numbers with independents are just absolutely terrible,” Sargent told Aaron Rupar and Thor Benson of Public Notice in an interview published Saturday.

Sargent cited a New York Times poll that found 68 percent of independents disapprove of Trump’s job performance....

Jim Acosta flags slipping GOP seat as MAGA super PAC rushes in emergency cash

Jim Acosta flags slipping GOP seat as MAGA super PAC rushes in emergency cash

Jim Acosta sees a Republican-held House seat slipping away, and a major MAGA spending group appears to be thinking the same thing.

On Friday's episode of "The Jim Acosta Show," Acosta told Sam Forstag, the Democratic candidate running in Montana's 1st Congressional District, that he has "more than a fighting chance" against Republican Aaron Flint. Forstag said the main MAGA super PAC had just moved $1.9 million more into the race "because they're scared."

Acosta pointed to recent polling from NonStop Local Montana showing Forstag neck and neck with Flint, a right-wing talk radio host. "You could win this thing," Acosta told him....
