Billionaire who beat Trump's pick in Georgia faces fallout over leaked recording: analysis

A MAGA billionaire gubernatorial candidate in Georgia was under fire on Wednesday after a recording surfaced with him reportedly "agreeing that women should have to 'prove' they were raped in order to qualify for an abortion," according to a report from The Daily Beast.

Rick Jackson defeated Burt Jones — a candidate backed by President Donald Trump — in the GOP primary on Tuesday night. The shock win has rocked the Republican Party as the new audio was revealed the next day.

The recording was reviewed by The Beast and apparently made at a campaign event before Jackson's victory. In it, the healthcare executive talks about "abortion with a voter who objected to exceptions for pregnancies resulting from rape."...

'The absolute worst of us': Trump blasted for 'deranged' remark on governor's weight

President Donald Trump deviated from his speech pardoning two turkeys ahead of Thanksgiving to attack one prominent Democratic governor presumed to run for the presidency in 2028.

During his remarks at the White House on Tuesday, Trump spent a portion of his speech talking about 26 year-old Bethany MaGee, who was set on fire while riding a train in Chicago, Illinois and is currently being treated for her injuries in a local hospital. Trump launched into an attack on Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson (D) and Gov. J.B. Pritzker (D), suggested their policies were to blame for the attack.

"The mayor is incompetent, and the governor is a big, fat slob," Trump said. "He ought to invite us in and say, 'please make Chicago safe.' We're going to lose a great city if we don't do it quickly."...

Gov. Mike Parson (R-MO) has commuted the sentence of a former Kansas City Chiefs assistant coach who was jailed for a drunk driving crash that seriously injured a 5-year-old girl.

According to Katie Moore and Jonathan Sherman writing for The Kansas City Star, Britt Reid "will be under house arrest until Oct. 31, 2025, according to Parson’s office. Reid, who is the son of Chiefs head coach Andy Reid, pleaded guilty to a single felony charge of driving while intoxicated, causing serious injury, for the Feb. 4, 2021, crash."

"Ariel Young, who was 5 years old at the time, was a passenger in one of two vehicles that Britt Reid’s pickup slammed into on the side of the entrance ramp along Interstate 435, near the team’s practice facility," said the report. "Prosecutors said Britt Reid was driving 83 mph two seconds before the collision and had a serum blood alcohol content of 0.113 about two hours after the crash. The legal limit is 0.08, according to Missouri law. Ariel was in a coma for 11 days."...

GOP governor slammed for celebrating Black History Month after banning diversity programs

Utah Gov. Spencer Cox was on the receiving end of backlash after he made a post on social media celebrating Black History Month just two days after signing a bill to ban diversity, equity and inclusion, or DEI, programs across the state, The Salt Lake Tribune reported.

In a post to his official account, Cox wrote: “We honor the resilience, courage and contributions African Americans have made to our state and nation. We celebrate Black communities and remain committed to improving access to opportunity.”

'It's not right': Reporter reacts to Republican governor's 'Communist China' insult

Nebraska Gov. Jim Pillen needled at the integrity of a reporter of Chinese descent for publishing an investigative article a month ago on his company, Pillen Family Farms, claiming “the author is from Communist China.”

The governor didn't call her out by name but the reporter, Yanqi Xu, works for the independent nonprofit news organization Flatwater Free Press.

She shot back against the comments, claiming that they were unfounded. ...
