GOP House Speaker Mike Johnson's warning about electing Democrats ended up sounding like 'a good time' to online critics.

During a full-throated speech at the Faith & Freedom Coalition "Road to Majority" Conference on Friday, Johnson (R-LA) tried to admonish voters, "If we lose the midterms, these Democrats will turn every committee of Congress into an investigative body."

"They'll go after the president's family, the cabinet, his donors, friends, half of you in this room will be targeted," Johnson said....

Democratic political strategist James Carville sounded reluctantly sympathetic as he declared that one of the GOP's top leaders is "dead" and losing power.

Carville was reacting to a clip of House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) defending Trump's shocking "I don't think about Americans' financial situations" comment from earlier in the week.

"I don't much care for Mike Johnson. We're both from the same state, different parts. Our politics are really different," Carville said in the latest episode of The Jim Acosta Show, before confessing that, "At some point, I feel sorry for the guy."...

Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL) was mocked on Saturday for suggesting that 'so many people' had floated her name for Speaker of the House — and replace House Speaker Mike Johnson.

The MAGA lawmaker posted on X that she was "honored" to be considered, though the internet quickly questioned why she made the comment.

"Truly, it is wonderful and I am flattered to have that type of support and trust," Luna wrote. "However, I do not know where the rumor started that I was considering a run, as I have never spoken to any member about it or considered even running for Speaker. For now, I feel that I am right where I need to be. At any rate, I love and appreciate all of you and will continue to fight for all of you in DC. @SpeakerJohnson, hopefully your cortisol levels didn’t spike too high."...

As the clock ticks down for Congress to pass Donald Trump's megabill that Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) claimed would be passed by July 4, the president is leaning hard on Senate Republicans to get the job done.

"The Great Republicans in the U.S. Senate are working all weekend to finish our 'ONE, BIG, BEAUTIFUL BILL,'” Trump wrote on Truth Social before listing the litany of benefits to average Americans.

CNN's John Berman questioned whether Donald Trump would stick by the embattled House Speaker Friday if Mike Johnson (R-LA) loses the first round vote.

The House was set to cast ballots at noon Eastern Time in what The Wall Street Journal called an "unpredictable" House Speaker vote.

Trump initially supported Johnson's bid to keep his job, writing on TruthSocial before the New Year, "Speaker Mike Johnson is a good, hard working, religious man. He will do the right thing, and we will continue to WIN. Mike has my Complete & Total Endorsement. MAGA!!!" ...

Rep. Patrick McHenry (R-NC), who is retiring at the end of this term, has a warning for conservatives he says are fostering an "absurd" goal of reigning in the powers of the House speakership while hoping for "conservative outcomes".

In an exit interview with Politico, McHenry said that a strong Congress was essential to balance the powers of the executive branch.

"What Congress has done since the Progressive Era is hand away power to agencies in the executive branch — and what we’ve done since ’94 is diminish Congress’ power, which is actually completely out of alignment for what the Founding Fathers wanted. They wanted a strong legislative branch to counter the executive branch," McHenry said....
