Timing of hush money ruling could blow up in Trump's face during debate with Kamala Harris

Reacting to reports that the office of Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg is pushing back at efforts by Donald Trump's lawyers to have the results of his 34-felony count hush money trial tossed on immunity grounds, MSNBC legal analyst Lisa Rubin claimed there's more at play than whether Judge Juan Merchan will agree.

Appearing on Friday's "Morning Joe," Rubin said the ruling could come down on Sept. 6 which could be problematic with a proposed presidential debate with Vice President Kamala Harris on tap at about the same time.

Speaking with fill-in host Jonathan Lemire, she explained, "Well, first of all, the judge has to make a determination about whether or not there is going to be a sentencing, but what's really important here, and I think this plays into the political calendar here, too, is that the judge has already committed he is going to make a decision about whether to set aside the verdict by September 6th."

"So when you hear the Trump campaign sort of backing away from the 'Anytime, anyplace, we'll debate Joe Biden,' which should have applied to Kamala Harris, as well, note that part may be contingent on what is going to happen on September 6th," she elaborated.

"If this conviction is upheld as many people suspect, you can understand why Trump would be very eager to avoid a debate with the person we are all referring to now as the person who is prosecuting the case, the biggest case, against Donald Trump," she claimed.

'Skeptical': CNN's Kaitlan Collins presses Trump attorney on tossing hush money case

Donald Trump's defense is going on offense to zap his legal troubles now that the Supreme Court ruled the president possesses absolute immunity for core constitutional powers.

The first case in Trump's sights is his 34-count felony conviction for falsifying business records last month in his New York City hush money trial.

"I think it just adds to the vast number of irregularities and unconstitutional aspects of that trial that took place in New York," said Will Scharf, one of the former president's defense attorneys, appearing on CNN's "The Source" with Kaitlin Collins. "We're obviously looking forward to vigorously challenging that trial verdict on numerous grounds. ...

Trump trial verdict: what's at stake?

Trump trial verdict: what's at stake?

NEW YORK — Jurors will soon deliver a verdict in the New York trial of Donald Trump. Guilty or innocent, their decision will shake the United States.

They must decide whether the former and perhaps future president is a criminal, just months before an election that could put him back in the White House.

The panel of 12 ordinary New Yorkers will start deliberations this week and they must reach a unanimous verdict, or the case will be declared a mistrial....

'Critical' recording played at hush money trial shows Trump's criminal intent: expert

Jurors heard former President Donald Trump's voice on Thursday. An audio recording played of Trump talking with his former fixer and attorney, Michael Cohen, about buying the silence of an alleged affair.

And for CNN legal analyst Joey Jackson that audio evidence is "critical" for the prosecution to hit home that Trump wasn't oblivious to the suspected scheme to quiet former Playmate Karen McDougal (alleging they carried on a love affair) before Americans voted for president in the 2016 election.

"This is critical information," Jackson said. "What's critical with respect to Donald Trump's knowledge and that conversation between Cohen and Donald Trump, why is that?... they were talking about the Karen McDougal deal, correct? The Karen McDougal — the Playboy [sic] playmate; but what it does is it gives Trump some knowledge with respect to what Cohen is doing."...

Nixon lawyer explains what's keeping him 'on the edge of his seat' in hush money case

The general public already knows a lot about the prosecution's case against Donald Trump in the criminal hush money cover-up case, but there's one detail that is keeping former Richard Nixon White House counsel John Dean "on the edge of his seat."

Dean, who recently highlighted a case that he said proves Trump has "no criminal immunity" when it comes to his actions as president, appeared on CNN Newsroom Live on Saturday and was asked about the case involving allegedly falsified records and an adult film star.

Dean noted that tabloid publisher David Pecker "was a good witness" and that it was "an attention-grabbing week for the jury and the public." ...

Trump says criminal hush money case 'faller apart' in typo-ridden post after trial

Legal experts spent the day pointing out how devastating witness testimony was Thursday against Trump in his first criminal trial, but at night the former president suggested the case "completely faller apart."

Trump said he had a "BIG DAY IN COURT(S) TODAY," likely referencing the hush-money cover up trial as well as the Supreme Court oral arguments regarding his claim of complete immunity for presidents. The Supreme Court's conservative majority appeared to most experts as open to giving Trump some form of immunity, but likely not what he seeks.

Regarding the hush money case, Trump said, "The Soros backed Alvin Bragg case, presided over by aa highly conflicted Judge, has completely faller apart."...
