'Basically an arsonist': CNN's Dana Bash ridicules Trump over demand for thanks

CNN's Dana Bash ridiculed President Donald Trump over a Truth Social post demanding L.A. officials thank him for sending in National Guard troops to quell protests.

"I know that...this is a promise that he gave on the campaign trail to do whatever he could to deport illegal immigrants," Bash said on Monday's Inside Politics. "But what he just posted is, is basically, an arsonist saying, 'You better call the fire department because they've got to come in fast to get the flames out. I mean, that seems like what's going on."

Trump sent the post Bash referred to on Monday afternoon....

'Too hard for him': Analyst claims Musk 'caved' before DOGE could make progress

Panelists on CNN's Inside Politics gave their theories Thursday on the reasons why Elon Musk has completely eschewed Washington now that his allotted time overseeing the Department of Government Efficiency is up.

"It was too hard for him," correspondent Jeff Zeleny declared. "He caved to political pressure here, and business pressure — that's what's so interesting. And now he's stepping out of politics. It's extraordinary."

Musk posted to X on Wednesday, "As my scheduled time as a Special Government Employee comes to an end, I would like to thank President @realDonaldTrump for the opportunity to reduce wasteful spending. The @DOGE mission will only strengthen over time as it becomes a way of life throughout the government." ...

'Stop it!' CNN host says strategists begging Trump to 'walk back what he's doing'

Over the weekend, President Donald Trump continued to use his "doll" metaphor to illustrate to Americans how they'll have to make do with less due to his tariffs.

Inside Politics' Dana Bash played two videos of Trump repeating his claim that kids can settle for "two dolls instead of 30," albeit with different numbers.

"All I'm saying is that you don't — that a young lady, a 10-year-old girl, 9-year-old girl, a 15-year-old girl — doesn't need 37 dolls. She could be very happy with two or three or four or five," Trump said aboard Air Force One. ...

'Weird and creepy': Conservative blasts Trump admin's latest initiative

A conservative critic branded the Trump administration's proposed incentives to encourage Americans to have more babies as something out of a Soviet-era Eastern Bloc country.

On CNN's Inside Politics Tuesday, Dana Bash cited a New York Times article about the administration's ideas to bolster the birthrate, that include $5,000 bonuses to new mothers, menstrual education programs, and a "Medal of Motherhood" for parents with six or more children.

"My view on this, has been that surveys for decades have shown that Americans would like to have more kids than they end up having," said The Washington Post's Ramesh Ponnuru. "And, so, the the thing that we need to be looking at as policymakers or people who are interested in this, is, how do we remove the obstacles that are keeping people from achieving their goals for their families, not trying to change their minds or socially engineer an outcome for them, which starts to look, frankly, weird and creepy." ...

'He gets to make the decisions!' Jim Jordan argues Trump can ignore judges

'He gets to make the decisions!' Jim Jordan argues Trump can ignore judges

Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) argued on CNN Sunday that the Constitution gives President Trump the power to make the decisions he feels are best for the country, checks and balances from Congress and the courts be damned.

Inside Politics host Manu Raju asked Jordan about a Reagan-appointed federal judge who argued "the president is going too far" on policy changes like rescinding birthright citizenship.

"I'm talking about, there's a pattern where judges are saying they're going too far on these issues," Raju pressed after Jordan argued it was "just one judge" who blocked Trump's order to end birthright citizenship. ...

CNN's John King says Trump just created 'a Democratic campaign ad already made' for 2026

CNN's John King says Trump just created 'a Democratic campaign ad already made' for 2026

CNN's Inside Politics pundit John King claimed that President Trump's pardons on the J6 rioters and reports he was inviting some of them to the White House was ripe material for Democrats to use against "vulnerable House Republicans" in 2026.

During a roundtable discussion Wednesday, Washington Bureau Chief David Chalian said, "Donald Trump feels emboldened in this moment as he takes that popular vote victory, the larger electoral margin victory than he had the last time around, into the White House. We described that transition, and now I think we're seeing what that feeling of an emboldened Donald Trump looks like in action, because, as you say, he really wants to do this."

Chalian added, "It is clear that Donald Trump feels completely entitled, emboldened to to go the hardest he can on stuff." ...
