'Lies': Trump slammed for trading 'nonsense' to cover own admin's failure

'Lies': Trump slammed for trading 'nonsense' to cover own admin's failure

USA Today columnist Rex Huppke took on what he called Donald Trump's "lies" that the Los Angeles protests over ICE raids constituted an "insurrection" that needed to be put down by the federalized National Guard.

"Donald Trump, the president who glibly pardoned the men and women convicted in the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol, wants you to believe the second-largest city in America is in ruins, destroyed by 'insurrectionist mobs,'” Huppke wrote, adding, "That’s nonsense. Trump inhabits an imaginary, dystopian America spun from his opportunistic lies."

Huppke argued that Trump wants his base to believe that "predominantly peaceful protests" over ICE raids on tax-paying immigrants just going to work were "vast and violent."...

Rape, manslaughter, drug trafficking: NPR pulls lid off pardoned MAGA rioters' rap sheets

Dozens of J6 rioters who were issued blanket pardons by President Donald Trump had violent criminal histories that judges considered when determining the severity of their sentences, according to new reporting from National Public Radio.

President Trump made good on his campaign promise on his first day back in office by granting clemency to everyone charged or convicted in the 2021 attack on the U.S. Capitol, including those found to have violently attacked police officers.

"While many people had no criminal record prior to committing crimes on Jan. 6, NPR has identified dozens of defendants with prior convictions or pending charges for crimes including rape, sexual abuse of a minor, domestic violence, manslaughter, production of child sexual abuse material and drug trafficking," the news outlet reported....

CNN's John King says Trump just created 'a Democratic campaign ad already made' for 2026

CNN's John King says Trump just created 'a Democratic campaign ad already made' for 2026

CNN's Inside Politics pundit John King claimed that President Trump's pardons on the J6 rioters and reports he was inviting some of them to the White House was ripe material for Democrats to use against "vulnerable House Republicans" in 2026.

During a roundtable discussion Wednesday, Washington Bureau Chief David Chalian said, "Donald Trump feels emboldened in this moment as he takes that popular vote victory, the larger electoral margin victory than he had the last time around, into the White House. We described that transition, and now I think we're seeing what that feeling of an emboldened Donald Trump looks like in action, because, as you say, he really wants to do this."

Chalian added, "It is clear that Donald Trump feels completely entitled, emboldened to to go the hardest he can on stuff." ...

Trump 'wants a paramilitary arm' for his 'war with half of America': analysis

Trump 'wants a paramilitary arm' for his 'war with half of America': analysis

President Donald Trump views himself as a "wartime president," according to a new article in The Bulwark, but his enemy isn't a rogue state — it's the American people themselves.

In an article published Tuesday, Bulwark Editor Jonathan V. Last wrote, "I don’t think there’s any way to read yesterday except as President Trump deciding that with the Republican party fully subservient to him, he can subjugate the other remaining power centers in American life. He can finally be a wartime president. It’s just that he’s going to war against America."

Last wrote that Trump's war with America is unprecedented, "Or at least: We haven’t had a president view Americans this way since Reconstruction."...

'Maybe they shouldn't be': Jordan cornered on CNN over pardons for violent J6 rioters

'Maybe they shouldn't be': Jordan cornered on CNN over pardons for violent J6 rioters

MAGA Republican Rep. Jim Jordan (OH) was forced to scramble Sunday when CNN's Dana Bash pressed him about whether violent January 6th rioters should be pardoned by incoming President Donald Trump.

Bash began, "One of the many things that the president-elect promised that he would do what was, and is, to pardon many of the January 6th rioters. We heard Vice President-elect J.D. Vance say last week that if anyone committed violence on that day, they should not be pardoned. He added, there's a little bit of a gray area there."

Bash stated that the Department of Justice reports 608 people have been charged with assaulting, resisting or obstructing officers, and 174 of those defendants have been charged with using a deadly or dangerous weapon against police officers. ...
