Sen. Joe Manchin (I-W. VA) is considering challenging Kamala Harris for the nomination, according to multiple news reports.

President Joe Biden announced earlier on Sunday that he would "stand down" from his campaign, ultimately endorsing his vice president, Kamala Harris, as the next U.S. president. That led Trump to whine, and attempt to change the terms of an upcoming debate.

Much of the Democratic party has already endorsed Harris for the role, but Manchin has other plans, according to CNN's Jake Tapper. ...

Although US Senator Joe Manchin (I-West Virginia) hasn't yet endorsed Joe Biden, the former moderate Democratic lawmaker has stood behind the president politically.

However, following Biden's poor debate performance last week, the Independent senator notified a group of allies that "he would soon break with" the president, which would make him "the first prominent elected official allied with the party to call for Biden to exit the presidential race," according to The Washington Post.

Per the Post, "Senior Democrats heard of Manchin’s plans and started making calls to the independent-minded senator," and "the 'full-court press' was quickly assembled to help dissuade Manchin from appearing on the show, according to two people familiar" with the matter....

Outgoing Sen. Joe Manchin (D-West Virginia) is teasing a possible bid for the presidency, just on the heels of announcing his retirement from the US Senate last week.

In a recent interview with NBC News' Kristin Welker, Sen. Manchin suggested a presidential run wasn't out of the question, saying that while he is still mulling whether there's room for moderate candidates in the field, he considered a possible bid for the White House to be a patriotic duty.

"I will do anything I can to help my country, and you're saying, 'Does that mean you would consider it?' Absolutely," Manchin said....

"It could be disastrous for Democrats," Levinthal said. "That was a seat that they were really, really desperately hoping to hold and the only way to hold it was with Joe Manchin in West Virginia."

Levinthal marveled that Manchin pulled off the tall order of claiming victory in a red state, "albeit a very conservative Democrat on the political spectrum, relatively speaking."...
