An ex-GOP pollster says one MAGA Senate candidate's disastrous debate night previews a much bigger problem for the GOP in November.

Sarah Longwell, the anti-Trump Republican strategist who publishes The Bulwark, said Friday on "The Secret Podcast" that Rep. Mike Collins (R-GA) was left "sputtering in a pool of his own urine" during Thursday's Georgia Senate debate, and she warned the performance reflects a slate of GOP candidates that could keep Republican voters home.

"Now, I had not seen a lot of Mike Collins," Longwell told co-host Jonathan V. Last. "But he was left sputtering in a pool of his own urine as Jon Ossoff scared the living daylights out of him with his level of competency."...

A Republican Senate hopeful absorbed a debate-stage takedown that political observers are calling one of the harshest they've ever seen.

Sen. Jon Ossoff (D-GA) faced off against Rep. Mike Collins (R-GA) Thursday night during their first debate in Georgia's closely watched Senate race, telling the Republican, "If John Lewis were marching today from Selma to Montgomery, Mike Collins would be grabbing a billy club."

Ossoff tied the line to a social media post from Collins. "This is a man who cheered on a group of young men who were mocking a Black woman on a college campus," Ossoff said. A focus group of President Donald Trump's voters spoke so warmly about his Democratic rival that a former GOP pollster couldn't believe it.

In a Saturday episode of The Focus Group Podcast, Sarah Longwell said she had to text her team midway through a focus group session to confirm the Georgians she was interviewing were actually voters who backed Trump in 2024. What threw her was how the voters in the focus group disapproved of Trump's job performance in his second administration and their descriptions of Sen. Jon Ossoff (D-GA).

"I like Jon Ossoff. I have voted for him before. I appreciate him because he does fight for the little guy," one voter told Longwell. "He just really represents the marginalized community very well. He's always looking out for us."...

Conservative commentator Scott Jennings had to face a shouting and relentless CNN panel after he defended Trump aide Natalie Harp.

During a Wednesday appearance on CNN's NewsNight, Jennings reacted to comments from Sen. Jon Ossoff (D-GA) about how President Donald Trump likes to "travel with Natalie Harp," his executive aide, who has found herself in the spotlight because of her close relationship with the president.

"I expect Ossoff to criticize Donald Trump. I expect every Democrat running for president to criticize Donald Trump," Jennings said. "What I thought was appalling about this is that Harp is not a public figure. She's not a household name. Nobody knows who she is, and when he injected her into this, he knew what he was doing, which is punching down on someone who's effectively defenseless."...

President Donald Trump and MAGA's furious reaction to Sen. Jon Ossoff's (D-GA) takedown of the commander-in-chief and his close aide Natalie Harp has set off his right-wing coalition, a former Republican insider said.

In his Substack and podcast on Tuesday, Steve Schmidt said Ossoff's comments have sent MAGA into a frenzy.

"What precisely is the relationship?" Schmidt asked. "Is she a young Eva Braun, devoted to her Führer? Is she more like a young Magda Goebbels? What is she exactly? Is she the equivalent of one of Putin's secret mistresses? Is she our shadow first lady, or as has been described as a human binky, a printer?"...

Georgia Senate candidate and Trump foe Sen. Jon Ossoff (D-GA) took a swipe at Rep. Mike Collins (R-GA) that got laughs from a crowd on Tuesday.

Ossoff and Collins are vying to represent Georgia in the Senate. During a campaign event in Columbus, Georgia, joined by Sen. Mark Kelly (D-AZ) — another President Donald Trump adversary — Ossoff launched a jab at the MAGA candidate endorsed by the president.

"This scandal piñata, Mike Collins," Ossoff said. "Every time you shake Congressman Collins, new misdeeds fall out. Have you seen it?"...
