'I certainly disagree': Defecting Dem called out by own party on CNN

A defecting Democrat was called out by his own party on Wednesday, with a leading Democrat telling CNN, "I certainly disagree."

Rep. Katherine Clark (D-MA), the House Minority Whip, responded to anchor Brianna Keilar's questions about the government shutdown and pushed back on Sen. John Fetterman's (D-PA) remarks.

"I don't care if it's Republicans doing that or my own party doing those things. I think that's the truth that our government must be open and we can negotiate all of these very important kinds of priorities," Fetterman told CNN on earlier in the day. ...

Busted: 62 members of Congress caught breaking the law

At least 62 members of 118th Congress have violated a federal insider trading and conflicts-of-interest law, a Raw Story analysis of congressional financial disclosures reveals.

Most of these violations involve failures to properly disclose stock trades as required by the Stop Trading on Congressional Knowledge (STOCK) Act of 2012. Some involve not abiding by the transparency and personal financial disclosure requirements first outlined in the STOCK Act's post-Watergate predecessor, the Ethics in Government Act of 1978.

The Vermont Democratic Party is one of many political fundraising committees that have fallen victim to theft during the past couple of years.

But it’s the only one where the thief deposited the stolen funds into a sports betting account.

The Home Depot Inc., PAC reported to the Federal Election Commission that it experienced theft of $7,500 in December due to an "erroneous bank debit."

"The PAC has taken action to prevent this from happening in the future by closing that bank account and opening a new account," said a report to FEC from May 8. "In addition, the PAC is using positive pay through the bank to prevent any future occurrences."...

Wisconsin GOP details aftermath of $2.3 million theft

The Republican Party of Wisconsin has vowed to not get fooled again — at least not like it did in October 2020, according to a letter the party committee sent the Federal Election Commission on Friday night.

After initially losing more than $2.3 million to hackers just days before Election Day 2020, the Republican Party of Wisconsin told the FEC that it's taken "concrete steps" to better defend against fraud after falling victim to one of the nation's largest cybertheft incidents that targeted a political committee.

Thief takes money from pro-Israel political action committee

The American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) reported theft of almost $4,700 from its political action committee — yet another example of fraud experienced by a political organization.

According to Federal Election Commission records, the AIPAC PAC had two fraudulent checks go out on Nov. 30 of this year for $2,740.66 and $1,958.82. The bank refunded the lost money to AIPAC.

AIPAC’s website says it’s a “national movement of pro-Israel Americans … from every congressional district who are working to strengthen bipartisan support for the U.S.-Israel relationship....
