Trump's AZ endorsement on the line as McCain backs Dem over MAGA: 'Cindy's revenge'

Trump's AZ endorsement on the line as McCain backs Dem over MAGA: 'Cindy's revenge'

President Donald Trump's influence was expected to be tested on Tuesday night as Arizona voters will decide whether MAGA-backed candidate Rep. Andy Biggs (R-AZ) faces off in the Republican primary against Rep. David Schweikert (R-AZ) for governor — and an analyst revealed a stunning plot twist tied to late Sen. John McCain (R-AZ).

CNN anchor Erin Burnett talked to political commentator S. E. Cupp during a panel discussion about why this election primary was so significant.

"And there's a lot on the line for President Trump's endorsement tonight," Burnett said. "Because when it comes to governor's primaries, Trump has suffered two recent high profile losses. Those are in the primaries in Iowa and Georgia. Biggs' primary opponent is Republican Congressman David Schweikert, who has consistently won in one of Arizona's most competitive congressional districts. He argues that the party can't gamble with a MAGA taking on Democratic incumbent Gov. Katie Hobbs in the fall."...

The friendships forged in a Democratic women governors group chat

In Meghan Meehan-Draper’s first years with the Democratic Governors Association (DGA), she noticed something startling: “We had more governors named John than we had governors who were women,” Meehan-Draper, now the executive director of the DGA, told The 19th.

A few years later, DGA launched the Women Governors Fund, which has put $80 million in Democratic women candidates in general elections. Since its start in 2018, the number of Democratic women governors has quadrupled.

The eight Democratic women leading their states — Maura Healey in Massachusetts, Katie Hobbs in Arizona, Kathy Hochul in New York, Laura Kelly in Kansas, Tina Kotek in Oregon, Michelle Lujan Grisham in New Mexico, Janet Mills in Maine and Gretchen Whitmer in Michigan — have changed what it means for women to win and hold executive office in the United States.

They’re a group marked by notable firsts, too. Three — Healey, Hochul, and Mills — are the first women to hold that office in their states. Lujan Grisham is the nation’s first Democratic Hispanic woman governor. Healey and Kotek are the first elected out lesbian governors in their states.

But what’s perhaps even more remarkable is the way the women in this group have made their relationships with one another a critical part of their own leadership. These eight women are actual friends. They call and text each other to check in and get advice. They get together for dinner — and bring their daughters. They turn to each other when they are going through something challenging and when they need to laugh.

The 19th interviewed Governors Healey, Hobbs, Hochul, Kelly, Lujan Grisham, Mills and Whitmer about their relationships with their peers, how they think about leadership, the issues that matter most to them, and how their families have shaped their work.

Most interviews were via phone; Mills’ responses are via email. Kotek declined to be interviewed. Interviews have been edited and condensed for clarity.

Fox News report claimed Arizona gov 'mysteriously disappeared.' She was in D.C. for a meeting.

On Thursday, September 28, Fox News reported that Arizona Treasurer Kimberly Yee would be serving as acting governor because of the "mysterious disappearance of Gov. Katie Hobbs."

But according to Arizona Central, Fox News' report — which had been headlined "Arizona governor mysteriously steps down for one day" — was "erroneous." And there was no "mysterious disappearance."

Hobbs, Arizona Central reports, was in Washington, D.C. on Wednesday, September 27 "for a meeting about border issues with Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas following a week-long visit to Taiwan, an important Arizona trade ally."...

‘Give it a (expletive) rest’: AZ Gov. hits back after far-right outlet hounds her at gym

Katie Hobbs hit back after a reporter from a far-right outlet hounded the Arizona governor at her gym, video posted on social media shows.

The Gateway Pundit reporter is heard shouting questions based on baseless conspiracies about her 2022 election victory over Kari Lake at the governor as she is seen walking swiftly down a hallway.

The reporter, who identifies himself as Jordan Conradson, hounds Hobbs as she walks through hallways at the gym accompanied by security....
