'Backstabbing RINO': 'Drama' catches congressional reporter's eye as GOP primary gets ugly

A GOP candidate in a California congressional race took a shot at his primary challenger's loyalty to Trump and MAGA credentials with a new attack ad.

Rep. Ken Calvert called fellow California congressional Republican Rep. Young Kim a "Trump-traitor" and a "RINO," or Republican in name only, in an ad for his primary campaign that blasts Kim's campaign material promoting her as "100 percent pro-Trump."

"Young Kim voted to censure and condemn Trump," the attack ad's dramatic narration goes, before featuring a soundbite of Trump referring to her as "backstabbing RINO."...

Chicago letter carriers face bullets and beatings while postal service sidelines police

CHICAGO — As a little girl in the 1980s, Khalalisa Norris aspired to become a letter carrier. She’d sit on her front porch in Chicago’s Austin neighborhood and wait for her local mailman, and eventual mail lady, each day.

In her 20s, Norris realized her dream, and ever since, she’s delivered mail on Chicago’s West Side.

As United States Postal Service letter carriers face increasing violence and assaults on the job, the police officers who could protect them have been sidelined by the government, a new Raw Story investigation revealed.

With letter carrier robberies skyrocketing by 543 percent between 2019 and 2022, the issue has spurred a bipartisan group of Congress members to introduce legislation aimed at providing more secure mailbox equipment and better protecting letter carriers.

Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick (R-PA), who introduced the Protect our Letter Carriers Act last week, said Raw Story's investigation should urge Congress to turn the bill into law....

Big money for top Democrat stolen: federal records

U.S. House Minority Whip Katherine Clark (D-MA) — the second-ranking Democrat in the House — is the latest member to become entangled in an epidemic of thefts affecting public officials.

Federal records indicate that a $5,000 check from the Unum Group Political Action Committee to Clark’s campaign committee was “fraudulently intercepted” sometime before Nov. 14.

Unum Group Political Action Committee, which is sponsored by the Unum Group insurance and employee benefits company, reported the theft to the Federal Election Commission on Tuesday morning, according to a Raw Story review of public records....

California congressman loses nearly $10K in mail theft

WASHINGTON — Rep. Ken Calvert (R-CA) is so concerned about mail fraud that he introduced legislation that would double the penalties for those convicted of theft via the U.S. Postal Service.

Now, it appears Calvert himself has fallen victim to the kind of fraud he's trying to prevent — the latest in a litany of lawmakers and political committees who together have lost millions of dollars in political cash to recent financial criminals.

For Calvert, his leadership political action committee — Eureka Political Action Committee — experienced an "unauthorized expense" worth $9,900 in late August, according to a filing with the Federal Election Commission reviewed by Raw Story....
