'Got to be kidding': Kevin McCarthy shredded for 'brain rot' boast about GOP ethics

With the news that Maine's Democratic Senate candidate Graham Platner has been accused of sexual assault, and facing massive pressure to drop out of the election, former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) took to Fox News to take a victory lap about Republicans' own ability to choose upstanding candidates.

"One thing I know about Republicans is when we had a very bad candidate, we didn't vote for that person. We walked away," said McCarthy.

This triggered a tsunami of outrage from commenters on social media, who were swift to note not only have several Republican candidates been accused of heinous sexual misconduct, including toward kids, only to still receive significant party support, but that Trump himself has a massively long list of women accusing him of everything from harassment to assault....

'I'm, uh –– yeah': GOP's Emmer ignores Trump's attacks on him during ABC interview

Majority Whip Rep. Tom Emmer (R-MN) graciously declared that he and President-elect Donald Trump were on "very good terms" after ABC's Jonathan Karl confronted him with a nasty quote about being a Republican In Name Only, or RINO.

"So, let me ask you, your relationship with Trump," Karl began on Sunday's This Week with George Stephanopoulos. "I remember when Kevin McCarthy was ousted as speaker, you were nominated to replace him, and Donald Trump — you probably remember this, but let me remind you just in case — posted on Truth Social, 'I have many wonderful friends wanting to be Speaker of the House and some are truly great warriors. RINO Tom Emmer, who I do not know well, is not one of them...He is totally out-of-touch with Republican voters...' Now, to be fair, that was more than a year ago. I assume you've gotten to know Trump a little bit better?"

Emmer responded, "The president and I are on very good terms. I'm, uh — yeah. The president has been wonderful to me, been wonderful to my wife, has done everything that he could to campaign in Minnesota. He's been amazing, and yeah, we're going to do some good work together. But it's Donald J. Trump's agenda. My job is to make sure that we execute."...

Chicago letter carriers face bullets and beatings while postal service sidelines police

CHICAGO — As a little girl in the 1980s, Khalalisa Norris aspired to become a letter carrier. She’d sit on her front porch in Chicago’s Austin neighborhood and wait for her local mailman, and eventual mail lady, each day.

In her 20s, Norris realized her dream, and ever since, she’s delivered mail on Chicago’s West Side.

But that dream became a nightmare....

Hotel heist: Fraudsters stole thousands from hospitality giant's political committee

WASHINGTON — An "unknown and unauthorized external party" stole nearly $7,500 from Marriott International's federal political action committee — the latest in a string of thefts affecting high-profile politicians, corporations and unions.

The thefts, which took place on Feb. 20 and March 12, according to federal documents reviewed by Raw Story, were not an inside job, the Marriott International Inc. Political Action Committee told the Federal Election Commission.

"The transactions were external fraudulent activity and not the result of committee staff misappropriating funds or due
to a failure to implement internal controls," Marriott International's PAC wrote the FEC on Aug. 6 following an inquiry from the agency in July. "In fact, the Committees internal controls contributed to the quick identification, reporting, and remedy of this issue."...

Boebert, MTG and far-right friends derail Speaker Mike Johnson’s summer plans

WASHINGTON — U.S. House Republicans have all but given up on governing this year.

So they’re off to go campaign the rest of the summer despite — in the recent estimation of Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump — the nation being mired in “crisis” and “decline” over issues squarely in Congress’ purview, ranging from immigration to inflation to international relations.

After Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) and other Republican leaders embarrassingly had to pull four funding bills from the House floor this summer over internal party disagreements, this week GOP leaders just decided to pull the plug on legislating and start their summer recess early. ...
