Seoul says Pyongyang launched ballistic missile towards Sea of Japan

North Korea has fired a ballistic missile, the South Korean military said on Tuesday. North Korea launched what appeared to be an intermediate-range ballistic missile (IRBM) from the Pyongyang area at about 6:53 am (2153 GMT on Monday) towards the East Sea, also known as the Sea of Japan, the general staff in Seoul (JCS) said. According to the South Korean military the missile travelled some 600 kilometres before ending in the sea. Data on the missile test is being analysed in cooperation with the US and Japan, it said. South Korea's military assumed that the test was a medium-range missile wi......

Seoul says Pyongyang launched more cruise missiles

North Korea launched several cruise missiles on Friday, South Korea's military said. South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) said it detected an unspecified number of missiles launched from North Korea's west coast around 11 am (0200 GMT), news agency Yonhap reported. Yonhap said that it was Pyongyang's fourth cruise missile launch so far this year. North Korea has recently said that it has tested a new type of submarine-launched cruise missile, a Pulhwasal-3-31, to expand its nuclear strike capability. The cruise missiles, fired on Sunday, hit their target on an island in the sea between th......

South Korea's military detects missile launch by Pyongyang

North Korea has fired several cruise missiles for the second time in just a few days, according to the South Korean military. The launch was recorded from the waters near Shinpo on the east coast, the General Staff in Seoul announced on Sunday. It was initially unclear whether the cruise missiles were launched from a submarine, or how far they flew. "While strengthening our monitoring and vigilance, our military has been closely coordinating with the United States to monitor additional signs of North Korea's provocations," the joint chiefs of staff said in a text message sent to reporters at S......

State media: North Korea claims to have tested new type of cruise missile

North Korea has claimed to have tested a new type of cruise missile, state media reported on Thursday. Pyongyang on Wednesday tested a new type of strategic cruise missile, the Bulhwasal-3-31, which is under development, the state-controlled media outlet KCNA said. Pyongyang's pursuit of nuclear weapons has made it the subject of wide-ranging international sanctions. UN resolutions prohibit North Korea from testing ballistic missiles of any range, some of which are capable of carrying a nuclear warhead. Tests of cruise missiles are not subject to sanctions against Pyongyang. Such weapons, howe......

North Korea's Kim calls ICBM test a 'clear signal' to the U.S.

North Korea's test of a solid-fuel intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) should serve as a warning to the United States and its allies, ruler Kim Jong Un said, according to state-run media on Tuesday. The launch of the Hwasong-18 on Monday sent a "clear signal to the hostile forces," said Kim, who oversaw the launch of the missile with a range that allows it in theory to hit anywhere in the United States. Depending on their design, the missiles can be equipped with a nuclear warhead. On Monday, the missile flew some 1,000 kilometres from a steep launch angle before falling into the sea. "T......

State media: North Korea fired missiles from submarine in Sea of Japan

North Korea fired two missiles from a submarine in the East Sea, as the Sea of Japan is also known, over the weekend, North Korean state media said on Monday. State-controlled KCNA said two "strategic cruise missiles" were fired from the submarine 8.24 Yongung in an "underwater launching drill" on Sunday morning. The submarine was in the waters off Kyongpho Bay and "precisely hit the preset target" in the East Sea after traveling the 1,500 kilometres in "eight-shaped flight orbits" for over two hours, KCNA reported. The agency said that Pyongyang was monitoring the situation in the Korean peni......
