'Where do we go from here?' Trump's flouting of court order flabbergasts analysts

'Where do we go from here?' Trump's flouting of court order flabbergasts analysts

Analysts were left aghast and thinking about how to reckon with President Donald Trump's insistence on banning certain media outlets from the White House.

During a Thursday segment on CNN, Jamal Simmons, the former communications director for VP Kamala Harris, said that Trump's defiance of the law will force the American people to consider what matters. The discussion came after CNN White House correspondent Kristen Holmes was restricted from the White House despite a judge's temporary order blocking Trump's media ban.

"The American people deserve a free press. They deserve a freedom of speech. We fought a revolution for that. We fought a civil war so that we could give those rights to other people. We had World War II to defend democracy," Simmons explained. "At this point, it's time for all of us to have a really, really frank conversation about where do we go from here and what kind of principles tie us together around these freedoms?"...

Expert sounds the alarm as Trump's press ban points to historic danger: 'An outrage'

President Donald Trump ignoring a judge's block on his media ban signals a significant step towards dictatorship amid a larger attack on U.S. law.

On Thursday, legal expert Laurence Tribe, a constitutional law professor emeritus at Harvard, warned of Trump's larger attack on the law amid his insistence on banning CNN, MS NOW and Politico from the White House. Tribe spoke on CNN after the network's correspondents were again turned away from the White House despite a judge issuing a temporary restraining order against the media ban.

"The president is playing cat and mouse with the American people," Tribe said. "It really is an outrage. He says that he's going to comply with judicial orders, but he defied them this morning."...

Judge whose son was killed: Trump-fueled threats must stop or more will die

While a judicial coalition applauded a federal appeals court decision this week to dismiss a complaint against a judge who stopped the Trump administration deporting Venezuelan migrants to El Salvador, the group is continuing to sound the alarm on threats to and attacks on judges they say the president is fueling.

Paul Kiesel, founder of Speak Up for Justice, a nonpartisan group advocating for judicial independence and protection, told Raw Story attacks from President Donald Trump and the Department of Justice, such as those directed at Judge James Boasberg in the District of Columbia, can have life-and-death consequences.

Just last month in Indiana, a superior court judge and his wife were shot at their home, allegedly in an attempt to derail a domestic abuse case involving a motorcycle club member....

Summary execution: Does this legal theory hold hope of justice for ICE shooting victims?

Summary execution: Does this legal theory hold hope of justice for ICE shooting victims?

Lawyers speaking to Raw Story said justice could still prevail in the cases of Renee Good and Alex Pretti, the two people shot dead by federal agents in Minneapolis this month, despite the Trump administration’s refusal to cooperate with state investigations.

Good, a 37-year-old mother of three, was fatally shot by a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officer as she drove her car on Jan. 7.

Pretti, also 37 and an intensive care nurse, was killed on Jan. 24, when agents used pepper spray, beat him, shoved him to the ground, disarmed him, then fired at least 10 shots....

'Massive corruption': Supreme Court set to boost Trump in case bigger than Dobbs — experts

The Supreme Court is poised to overturn a 90-year-old decision protecting the heads of independent federal agencies from firing by the president — a move more significant in the court’s rightward march than the 2022 decision to overturn the right to abortion in Roe v. Wade, alarmed legal experts tell Raw Story.

“This is the most important case of the decade,” said Seth Chandler, professor at the University of Houston Law Center.

Following oral arguments in Trump v. Slaughter last week, most observers predict the Court will side with President Donald Trump in his firing of Federal Trade Commissioner Rebecca Slaughter. ...

Biographer plans to subpoena Trump, Melania and Maxwell about Epstein ties in new lawsuit

Michael Wolff plans to subpoena President Donald Trump, Melania Trump, and convicted child sex trafficker Ghislaine Maxwell in the lawsuit he filed against the first lady on Tuesday, the reporter and Trump biographer said.

A legal threat against him by Melania Trump last week represented “exactly … what a SLAPP suit is,” Wolff said, going on to define “strategic lawsuits against public participation,” or intimidation suits, as weapons wielded by wealthy people saying, “We're suing you so you shut up.”

“That's against the law in New York state, to use the law for such purposes,” Wolff told the former Clinton aide Sidney Blumenthal and Michael Popok, a lawyer and host of the Legal AF podcast, on Wednesday. ...
