Trump 'miscalculated badly' as BBC nightmare threatens to expose his kids: analysis

President Donald Trump's own words could come back to haunt him — and his children and son-in-law.

Salon's Sophia Tesfaye discussed how the president's BBC lawsuit could reveal more information about his statements on Jan. 6, 2021, and his family's connection to the events that day. It's tied to the question around Trump's statement and what he meant when he told a crowd "fight like hell" before a group of insurrectionists attacked the U.S. Capitol.

But Trump might not have realized his previous legal strategy would backfire, Tesfaye argued....

Judge slaps down Trump's last-ditch bid to stop E. Jean Carroll payments: report

Trump's emergency motion to stop payments to accuser E. Jean Carroll failed after another judge ordered him to pay up.

Late Wednesday, Judge Eunice C. Lee, who was appointed to the Second Circuit Court of Appeals by Biden, ruled against a Trump emergency motion filed earlier in the day, Politico legal correspondent Kyle Cheney reported.

Carroll, a former magazine columnist, successfully sued Trump for defamation after she accused him of sexually assaulting her. A jury found Trump liable for sexual assault, and Carroll successfully sued him twice. She won $5 million in damages from a 2023 verdict and $83 million from a 2024 suit....

JD Vance sued by cat lady troll after Secret Service blocked her from attending event

A woman who has frequently trolled Vice President JD Vance using a satirical cat lady Instagram account filed a lawsuit against him after he blocked her from attending a public event, The Daily Beast reported Tuesday.

Political influencer Amanda McGonigle, 37, said that the Secret Service blocked her from a taxpayer-funded "official work visit" in May in Bangor, Maine.

Five agents apparently approached her and said, "We know where you stand," The Beast reported. After the incident, she decided to sue the Executive Office of the President and the Secret Service for violating her First Amendment rights. ...

'Poking the bear:' CNN analyst stunned by John Brennan's new lawsuit against Trump

CNN correspondent Katelyn Polantz said that President Donald Trump's enemy, former CIA Director John Brennan, has filed a new lawsuit against the administration that could provoke Trump.

Polantz reported that Brennan has sued to try to have investigative records into him preserved. She revealed more details about the lawsuit during a live segment with CNN anchor Boris Sanchez.

"Well, Boris, this filing — it's essentially been described to me as poking the bear, where John Brennan's team is trying to signal to the Justice Department that if he were to be indicted for, say, potentially perjury, we knew he had been investigated for that, or something additional that they will be challenging it," Polantz said. ...

New details emerge in lawsuit accusing Kiefer Sutherland of chilling attack on Uber driver

New details were revealed in "24" actor Kiefer Sutherland's alleged attack and threat to kill an Uber driver, TMZ reported on Friday.

In a new lawsuit filed by Rafael Manvelyan, who said he speaks limited English and his languages are primarily Russian and Armenian, claimed that "Kiefer got 'agitated' when the actor was struggling to understand him" after he picked him up in Los Angeles on Jan. 12.

He said he noticed that the actor was "visibly intoxicated" and "increasingly hostile, aggressive, confrontational," according to court documents obtained by TMZ. Sutherland allegedly "threatened to kill him and started attacking him while he was driving, claiming Kiefer repeatedly hit him 'with closed fists' in his head, face, neck and upper body."...

Trump's $10B BBC lawsuit is about to backfire spectacularly: legal analysts

President Donald Trump's lawsuit against the BBC is about to implode, legal experts reported on Tuesday.

National trial lawyer and strategist Michael Popok, the host of the "Legal AF" podcast, discussed with legal analyst and MeidasTouch co-founder Ben Meiselas how Trump's attempts to sue the BBC for $10 billion — after he accused the broadcaster of deceptively editing a documentary about his role in the Jan. 6 Capitol riot — were likely to come back to haunt him.

"Donald Trump's litigation strategy seems to be blowing up in his face," Popok said. "The BBC and their defamation defense want to take the testimony and obtain documents from 47 different entities because they tell a federal judge that they've got to prove that Donald Trump actually did foment an insurrection and led an insurrection. See, Donald Trump couldn't leave well enough alone. The law of unintended consequences — obviously not something taught at Penn when Trump attended there — because look at all these unintended consequences."...
