Sen. Susan Collins (R-ME) insists Brett Kavanaugh never lied to her about Roe v. Wade, and an ex-GOP strategist thinks he knows why.

Former Republican strategist Steve Schmidt seized on the exchange in a Wednesday episode of "The Warning," a day after Collins faced Democratic challenger Troy Jackson in a debate. The moderator asked Collins whether Kavanaugh, who called Roe "settled law" before his confirmation vote, had lied to her.

"I do not feel that he lied, but I think that he should not have said it was settled law because to me that meant that it would not be overturned," Collins answered. "But to be fair, you cannot ask a nominee how he might vote on some hypothetical future case."...

"As late as 2024, the FBI was circling around Senator Collins," Jackson said. "They had emails, they knew about meetings. They've got a great big check for $150,000. The family of a man fatally shot by Immigration and Customs Enforcement will sue the agency, according to reporting by CNN.

The family of 25-year-old Johan Sebastián Durán Guerrero, who was killed last week in Biddeford, Maine, has decided to take legal action, CNN reported. The attorney for Durán Guerrero's family is accusing ICE of "intentionally hiring unqualified agents."

"If it turns out that the federal agent was an individual who suffered from severe depression and multiple psychiatric episodes, who suffered a concussion, that left him with cognitive deficits," the attorney told CNN. "What is a truly tragic and infuriating thing is that our government, who knew or should have known about all these things, gave that man a badge and a gun."...

Political analysts expressed their shock at learning that swing voters are unfamiliar with the latest killings by Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

During an episode of The Next Level, former Republican pollster Sarah Longwell revealed that a focus group she held this week found that swing voters and voters from swing states hadn't heard about the ICE killings in Texas and Maine.

"We asked about these shootings. They didn't know they'd happened, hadn't heard anything about them, just didn't even know," Longwell said. "We do not have an engaged populace in this. People are not paying attention the same way."...
