'They started yelling': Insider says aides 'had to stop Trump' from leaking secret order

There was a highly charged confrontation at the White House that resulted in Donald Trump overriding Mike Johnson and others on the religious right, and after that the president had to be stopped by aides from leaking the details to the public, according to a new WSJ report.

Josh Dawsey of the Wall Street Journal over the weekend dropped a report on how exactly it came to be that Trump made the decision to reschedule marijuana, an idea that has chilly support among many Republicans.

Posting the story on social media, the reporter wrote, "How a weed CEO ran an aggressive influence campaign to convince Trump to reschedule marijuana, which culminated in a dramatic Oval Office meeting with a Florida sheriff, Dr. Oz and many others — and Mike Johnson on the phone."...

According to NBC News' Julie Tsirkin, the president will say in his speech that no one should go to jail for cannabis-related offenses — and he will also speak about his push for the cabinet to reschedule the drug so that it is no longer treated as a top-level illegal substance.

This comes after the Drug Enforcement Administration confirmed earlier this year that they are reviewing a rescheduling recommendation, amid pressure from Democratic lawmakers....

Stoned on the job? Increase in work injuries linked to legal weed

There has been a 10% rise in workplace injuries in regions of the US where it is legal to smoke a joint, findings that come as countries including Germany and Thailand debate loosening or tightening rules around marijuana use. "Laws that allow recreational marijuana sales were associated with a 10% increase in workplace injuries among individuals ages 20 to 34," the researchers said, in findings published by the American Medical Association (AMA) and based on official workplace injury data. From University of Wisconsin-Parkside, San Diego State University and Bentley University, the economists......

Former Michigan GOP House speaker surrenders to serve marijuana bribery sentence

DETROIT — Former Michigan House Speaker Rick Johnson has surrendered at a minimum-security federal prison camp in Minnesota to serve a 55-month sentence for pocketing bribes and corrupting the state's marijuana industry, according to an inmate database updated Saturday. The database shows Johnson, 70, among the 433 inmates at FPC Duluth near the western edge of Lake Superior. The prison is about 700 miles northwest of Lansing where Johnson was one of the most powerful Republican lawmakers in the state before becoming a lobbyist and chief regulator of Michigan's marijuana industry. That career ......
