Credit card giant Visa confirmed to Raw Story on Friday morning that previously unacknowledged whispers of a major hack on a third party credit card processor were true. That hack, which resulted in a series of breaches earlier this year, is rumored to have exposed more than 10 million accounts to cyber criminals.

U.S. credit card provider Visa said Thursday that a payment processor in Iceland briefly opened the floodgates to donations to secrets outlet WikiLeaks, so they took the necessary steps to close them again.

REYKJAVIK — Seven months after Visa and MasterCard blocked credit card payments to WikiLeaks, donating to the whistleblower website using plastic became possible again on Thursday, its data hosting service provider said.

WikiLeaks announced on Friday evening that it and service provider Datacell intend to sue Visa and MasterCard in Europe "for engaging in an unlawful, U.S. influenced, financial blockade."

Decentralized protest group "Anonymous" has encountered many foes in the past: Sarah Palin, PayPal, the Church of Scientology, MasterCard, the Westboro Baptists and even the governments of Egypt, Tunisia and Libya, to name a few.

Credit card companies that prevented card-holders from donating money to the secrets outlet WikiLeaks could have their operating licenses taken away in Iceland, according to members of the Icelandic Parliamentary General Committee.
