Bizarre McDonald's ban report resurfaces as GOP rep faces new sex harassment probe

A GOP lawmaker's odd choice to ban protesters from six of his McDonald's franchises has resurfaced as he faces a House Ethics Committee investigation.

"A Republican congressman banning his own constituent from McDonald's for protesting his vote to cut SNAP benefits?" wrote Mother Jones national correspondent Tim Murphy on Thursday. "I'm not sure I've seen a more House Republican story than this."

Murphy was referring to Rep. Chuck Edwards, who is now under investigation for sexual harassment accusations, CNN reported on Thursday. That drew some attention to a story earlier from early April about Edwards' decision to ban North Carolina resident Leslie Boyd from the McDonald's franchises he owns. ...

Trump is stumbling into 'biggest scandal in US history' with botched Epstein case: report

President Donald Trump's options to mitigate potentially "the biggest political scandal in American history" are getting fewer by the day, according to a new piece in Mother Jones.

Currently on the table is a possible Trump pardon for Jeffrey Epstein's former girlfriend Ghislane Maxwell, who was sentenced to 20 years for sex trafficking — a move that experts claim would be devastating to Republicans running in the midterm elections.

In addition, Maxwell's attorney presented House Oversight Committee Chair James Comer (R-KY) with immunity demands if they want her to spill her secrets in a congressional hearing. ...

'Unprecedented': Report sounds warning over role of Truth Social in Trump world

President Donald Trump's Truth Social platform was slammed as an "unsuccessful and money-losing Twitter competitor" in a Mother Jones article Tuesday.

Yet to him, it remains a valuable tool keeping his cash flow moving and his administration in line, the report claimed.

According to senior reporter Anna Merlan, "The company that owns TruthSocial, Trump Media & Technology Group, has also been a way for the president to draw his political allies closer, through payments, board seats, and generous stock rewards."...

'They are nasty': Cops reveal barrage of threats as Congress voted on Cabinet picks

A new report by Mother Jones revealed a rise in violent threats against members of Congress around the same time some lawmakers wavered on whether to confirm controversial Trump cabinet nominees like Pete Hegseth, Tulsi Gabbard and Robert F. Kennedy Jr.

"The US Capitol Police released the information in response to a public records request by Mother Jones," although they did not specify whether targeted lawmakers were in the House or Senate, or which political party they belonged to, wrote reporter Pema Levy.

"As it turns out, threats of violence against members of Congress rose in January and February, at the same time that Trump and his allies were strong-arming lawmakers over confirmations," Levy wrote. "In January, the US Capitol Police counted 42 threats against members of the House and Senate, followed by 33 in February. During the same months in 2024, the numbers were 16 and 17, respectively."...

'Got your back': Defiance hits Musk as only 1 official tells staff to respond to email

Some federal officials are reminding their employees that Elon Musk is not their boss and they don't have to answer to him, according to new reporting in Mother Jones.

The directive from several department heads came after Musk and the Office of Personnel Management sent an email to an unknown number of federal employees with the subject line: "What did you do last week?" The email, sent Saturday, advised the employees to "reply to this email with approx. 5 bullets of what you accomplished last week and cc your manager."

Musk also posted to X, "Consistent with President @realDonaldTrump’s instructions, all federal employees will shortly receive an email requesting to understand what they got done last week. Failure to respond will be taken as a resignation."...

Elon Musk's Cybertruck found to be more dangerous than infamous Ford Pinto: report

A new report has come to a disturbing conclusion for Elon Musk's Tesla Cybertruck — the model is far more dangerous than even the infamously "explosive" Ford Pintos of the 1970s.

Automotive site FuelArc compiled the report after gathering "a full year of data for the Cybertruck" and pitting it against a decade worth of statistics for the Pinto, which was produced from 1970-1980.

FuelArc found that the fatality rate per 100,000 units was 14.52 for the Cybertruck and 0.85 for the Pinto, concluding that the Tesla model was "17 times more likely to have a fire fatality than a Ford Pinto." ...
