Taylor Swift and Beyoncé singing at Democratic National Convention? Delegates are dreaming

CHICAGO — Tuesday night at the Democratic National Convention might have looked a bit like a concert as delegates wore flashing, light-up bracelets in the United Center during its ceremonial roll call for presidential nominee Kamala Harris.

Later, former first lady Michelle Obama cemented her rockstar status with a rousing speech that had some delegates falling all over themselves.

And a real musical artist even showed up on the convention floor — rapper Lil Jon strutted among delegates changing the words of his hit song “Get Low” to support Harris and her running mate Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, doing so as the Georgia ceremonial roll call was announced....

Pioneering black conductor melds opera with S. African dance music

Ofentse Pitse embodies a fierce sense of fun as she waves her conducting baton passionately in a dimly lit auditorium in Johannesburg, ahead of a one-of-a-kind show.

The pioneering 31-year-old who hails from Mabopane, a township some 40 kilometers (25 miles) northwest of Pretoria, is the first South African woman to own and lead an all-black orchestra.

Now, she is producing a show that brings together classical music and popular South African genre, amapiano, which developed from a mix of kwaito, South Africa's take on house music, and the more international variety....

Her mere presence at the mammoth festival in the California desert set the internet alight, after she made a much-speculated appearance...as a fan, canoodling and dancing with beau Travis Kelce as Bleachers performed a rollicking set. The rock band Bleachers is fronted by Jack Antonoff, Swift's friend and longtime producer. Kelce's blocking skills came in handy as the 6......

New York (AFP) - From Elton John's glasses to a Banksy triptych, a collection of more than 900 items and artworks belonging to the legendary British musician fetched more than $20 million at several auctions this month, Christie's said Thursday. The auction house held a series of eight sales, both in person and online up until Wednesday for the collection of the 76-year-old's belongings, including an ivory and gold glam rock jumpsuit from the early 1970s designed by Annie Reavey, which sold for $12,600. As enthusiastic collectors made bids, John's grand piano fetched over $200,000, while a pai......
