District attorney calls 'Occupy Albany' a wonderful protest
Albany County District Attorney David Soares told Current TV host Keith Olbermann on Monday night the "Occupy" demonstrators in New York’s capital city "should be allowed to protest and exercise their First Amendment right,” as long as they remain peaceful.
New York state troopers and Albany police this past weekend urged by Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) and Albany mayor Gerald Jennings.
Soares said rather than trying to evict the demonstrators from their current encampment in Academy Park, police were engaging with the protesters and maintaining open lines of communication.
"Thus far the protests have been taking place in Albany," he explained. "Things have been fine, and the relationship couldn't be better."
Soares added the "Occupy Albany" organizers deserved credit for maintaining a "wonderful protest."
