'Tidal wave on our hands’: Furious voters say Trump’s turning key red state purple

Angry voters in Iowa could turn the state from solid red to a swing state because they feel betrayed by President Donald Trump on issues from healthcare to agriculture.

According to an article in Newsweek, Iowa has "leaned Republicans" for nearly a decade, with Trump carrying the state "by 9 points in 2016, 8 points in 2020, and about the same in 2024."

But that could soon change if the latest polling is accurate....

Trump's Nobel Peace Prize nod withdrawn

Trump's Nobel Peace Prize nod withdrawn

Donald Trump's desire to win a Nobel Peace Prize took a major step backward when the Ukrainian lawmaker who nominated the U.S. president abruptly withdrew his recommendation.

Newsweek reported Tuesday that Oleksandr Merezhko, the head of Ukraine's parliamentary foreign committee who nominated Trump last November, said he had "lost any sort of faith and belief" that Trump would make good on his vow to end the war between Ukraine and Russia.

Trump promised during his 2024 presidential campaign that he would "end the Ukraine war within 24 hours." Trump has since said he was being "sarcastic" when he repeatedly made the remark, and said in April that the U.S. will "take a pass" on brokering further negotiations unless there Moscow and Kyiv made progress toward a ceasefire....

Experts suspect Clarence Thomas fears Trump will replace him with 'hack'

Speculation abounds as to whether 76-year-old Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas will retire anytime soon, paving the way for President Donald Trump to appoint a justice openly willing to carry out his agenda, Newsweek reported.

Experts began discussing the idea more fervently after Trump picked a fight with the conservative Federalist Society and its co-founder Leonard Leo over the current justices failing to fall in line.

On Truth Social, Trump wrote that he was was "'disappointed' by 'the bad advice' the society had given him on judicial nominations during his first term."...

'Pantomime': Ex-judge sounds alarm that Trump 'negotiating a bribe'

A retired judge and author is accusing CBS and President Donald Trump of "negotiating a bribe" under the guise of a federal lawsuit settlement, a former judge wrote in a new opinion piece in Newsweek.

"To be sure, a pantomime is being played out," wrote Thomas G. Moukawsher, a legal scholar and former Connecticut Superior Court judge. "The parties are pretending to be earnestly negotiating the settlement of a federal lawsuit. But they should not delude themselves. They are negotiating a bribe."

Moukawsher claimed the "bribe" is one of Trump's "new favorite grifts" whereby he files "bogus personal lawsuits against people he could hurt with presidential power," then demands a payoff. ...

'Don't regret the vote': Trump fan doubles down on MAGA even after ICE arrests wife

A man who voted for Donald Trump claims he doesn't regret his decision, even though the president's mass deportation order has threatened to tear his family apart, Newsweek reported.

Bradley Bartell's Peruvian-born wife Camila Muñoz was detained by ICE in February when the two returned from their honeymoon in Puerto Rico.

Muñoz admitted that she overstayed her initial visa "but was working toward obtaining permanent residency in the United States," according to Newsweek. Muñoz has no criminal record, but White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said at a January news conference that that doesn't matter. ...

GOP lawmakers finally move to wrest control over Elon Musk and DOGE: report

Congressional Republicans alarmed by the head-spinning speed with which Elon Musk has been upending the federal government are taking steps to gain back some control over the Department of Government Efficiency, according to a new report in Newsweek.

So far, DOGE has shuttered whole agencies and recommended more than 200,000 job cuts, some of which have then been brought back in a haphazard fashion, confusing everyone involved. Republican lawmakers have gotten an earful about the chaos from their constituents, and the courts have taken up the legality of many of the cuts.

"For the first time since the initiative began, congressional Republicans are pushing to impose checks and balances on Musk and exert more control over DOGE's cuts," wrote Newsweek's Martha McHardy. "The move signals a growing effort by Republicans to reclaim Congress' authority over federal spending."...
