Watergate prosecutor says Trump made 'Watergate-level confessions about an illicit motive'

Watergate prosecutor says Trump made 'Watergate-level confessions about an illicit motive'

Donald Trump left more evidence of criminal intent than Richard Nixon, according to Watergate lawyer Nick Ackerman Saturday.

Ackerman appeared on MSNBC over the weekend, where he was asked about how Trump demanded the prosecution of his perceived political enemies, including ex-FBI director James Comey.

The host asked, "What do you see in the echoes of Watergate? And has Trump made Watergate-level confessions about an illicit motive?"...

Nixon lawyer explains what's keeping him 'on the edge of his seat' in hush money case

The general public already knows a lot about the prosecution's case against Donald Trump in the criminal hush money cover-up case, but there's one detail that is keeping former Richard Nixon White House counsel John Dean "on the edge of his seat."

Dean, who recently highlighted a case that he said proves Trump has "no criminal immunity" when it comes to his actions as president, appeared on CNN Newsroom Live on Saturday and was asked about the case involving allegedly falsified records and an adult film star.

Dean noted that tabloid publisher David Pecker "was a good witness" and that it was "an attention-grabbing week for the jury and the public." ...

'I'd be shocked': Watergate whistleblower says Trump can't delay election case beyond 2024

'I'd be shocked': Watergate whistleblower says Trump can't delay election case beyond 2024

The Supreme Court's decision on Friday to sidestep special counsel Jack Smith's request to immediately take up former President Donald Trump's claim of immunity from prosecution is a win for the former president's efforts to delay and push out the date of his criminal trial for the 2020 plot to overthrow the presidential election — which experts believe he is trying to stall out until after the 2024 election, where if he wins he could make the trial go away with his control of the Justice Department.

But Trump shouldn't count on being able to delay it that far, said former Nixon White House counsel and Watergate whistleblower John Dean on CNN.

"Do they have the expiration date, do you see a scenario where Trump could, if the chips fall, all the chips fall in his direction, could delay beyond the election?" asked anchor Jim Sciutto....

Supreme Court faces higher stakes in Trump case than they ever did with Nixon: John Dean

Supreme Court faces higher stakes in Trump case than they ever did with Nixon: John Dean

The Supreme Court faces even higher stakes in settling the question surrounding former President Donald Trump's criminal trial in D.C. than it did in the Richard Nixon Watergate tapes matter, former Nixon White House counsel John Dean argued on CNN Thursday.

This comes as special counsel Jack Smith pushes on with his request for the Supreme Court to expedite a review of Trump's claims to presidential immunity, over the objections of Trump himself.

"This latest filing from the special council once again cites U.S. v. Nixon as precedent for a swift decision," said anchor Pamela Brown, noting that Smith wrote in the filing, "Here the stakes are as high if not higher."...

Trump lawyers should stop citing Nixon to get ex-president out of trouble: legal analyst

Trump lawyers should stop citing Nixon to get ex-president out of trouble: legal analyst

MSNBC legal analyst Lisa Rubin had a suggestion for Donald Trump's lawyers: lay off the Nixon references.

Speaking to Alicia Menendez, Rubin explained that there are some "real doozies" in the Trump filing.

"The most important takeaway is [Trump saying], 'yes, the Supreme Court should weigh in. This is an issue of first impression, just not now,'" she characterized. "All of his reasons why it should be some time, but not now, don't carry a lot of water."...

Nixon lawyer shows 'where the worry should be' in Trump's D.C. criminal case

Donald Trump's presidential immunity argument isn't likely to be accepted by the Supreme Court, but he could still notch a win in another way, a former Nixon White House counsel said Saturday.

John Dean, a pivotal figure in the Watergate investigation, appeared on CNN Newsroom with Jim Acosta, where he was asked if Trump could potentially prevail on the immunity issue even after Judge Chutkan completely rejected it.

"Do you think Trump might be able to pull this off?" the host asked. "Because you have the right to appeal things and take to it a higher court and there are some weighty issues... could Trump pull it off?" ...
